1 Month Essentials for Baby & Mommy

3 Nov

Can’t believe our little Logie Bear is already over 1 month old!!

It’s amazing the changes we are already starting to see in him. He now tries to focus, and his neck is so strong. He loves to stare at the lights and our faces and is even trying to crack a smile every now and then. watching him grow and change is amazing!

I have been asked by some soon to be mommy’s about the things we have used and needed – and advice of what I think they should be stocking up on! I have been working on a registry checklist that I will be posting soon. But I really want to share the essentials we needed the first month. For not only baby, but mama as well. Because recovering from delivery can not be pretty sometimes and there are quite a few things that other people had recommended to me that really helped get me through my first month post-baby!! I will also start working on a list for packing your hospital bag!

1 Month Baby Essentials

  • Diapers/ Wipes/ Sleepers/  – all the obvious things
  • Diaper rash cream – my GF gave me this organic one and we just love it – it works wonders!!!! http://yemaya.ca/

Diaper Ointment

  • Bassinet (Swivel Sleeper by Halo) http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=24126636 ~ this is great because we have a really high bed, and it was so hard to find something that would be high enough. Plus I love the mesh sides so air can get through easily. It also has a little night light, music and vibration to help baby sleep. But buyer beware – it goes through batteries QUICK!

IMG_6520

  • Diaper Pale – we got the Genie Elite (and refills) http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=13265017
  • Vibrating chair – this is great for being so light and portable. So when mommy is home by herself she can take it from room to room! We got ours from my sister in law as a hand me down…it’s by fisher price

IMG_6724

  • Baby Monitor (Summer Infant – Wifi Monitor) This monitor is amazing and super high tech. It comes with a mobile video monitor plus there is an app for your phone or ipad, so you can check in on baby no matter where you are. From both your phone or the monitor you can move the camera, check the temperature in the room and talk to the baby through the monitor. http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=24777286
  • GLIDER!!!! I spend HOURS in this…… and love it! it’s soooo comfy! we got ours at babyshack in whitby – its called Luana

IMG_6606

seriously how snuggly in this little cutie??

IMG_6907

  • Aden & Anais swaddle blankets (we actually don’t use these to swaddle at night, because we have a little Houdini… but they are awesome for just every day use of over stroller, wrapping him when feeding etc…you seriously can’t have enough of these!) http://www.adenandanais.ca/ all their products are awesome!! we have the wash cloths, burp cloths, crib sheet, change table cover and I just ordered the dream blanket!! all are so soft and breathable fabric…

image[7]

  • Blooming Bath for newborns http://babyramacanada.com/xcart/Blooming-Bath-Baby-Bath.html?wishlistid=14517 (also on Amazon or you can get a good deal on them when they are on Zulily) these make it so easy to bath him, and is so soft … he loves bath time! (someone told me to make the water warmer then what they tell you – and it’s true! he screamed for his first bath and now that I make it warmer (usually 103 or 104) he LOVES it!!!

1 month Mommy Essentials

here is a pic of me in the hospital in them…

IMG_6523

  • A good water bottle with a straw! I keep this in the nursery – you need to drink so much water when breastfeeding, so make sure to keep it in all your main spots!
  • Breast pads & Nipple cream – you can never have enough!! http://www.amazon.ca/Lansinoh-HPA-Lanolin-40g/dp/B00BLA3EPQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1415030362&sr=1-1&keywords=lansinoh
  • Lansinoh Thera Pearl 3 in 1 – These little things are amazing for your nipples the first couple weeks! I would pop them in the freezer and use them when my nipples were sore!!! I think I bought mine at shoppers…  http://www.amazon.ca/Lansinoh-Thera-Pearl-3-in-1/dp/B00BLA3J38/ref=sr_1_5?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1415030218&sr=1-5&keywords=lansinoh
  • Breastfeeding pillow I had both the breastfriend and the boppy and I only ever used the boppy… the breastfriend just wasn’t comfortable for me. But everyone is different… (this is really crucial those first couple weeks, I am only now at a point where I can breastfeed literally sitting or standing … each day gets easier)
  • Now this is definitely TMI for some I am sure – but it’s a must on the list. go out and get yourself some stool softeners (the hospital will send you home with some, but don’t stop taking them for another 2 weeks) TUCKS pads, Preparation H cream – these pesty buggers didn’t get me till 2 weeks after I gave birth, so I was so grateful to have this stuff on hand!
  • The hospital will send you home with a squirt bottle for after you go the bathroom – this thing was yet again my best friend, I even took it with me if I was leaving the house. Just helps sooth and clean everything down there for the first little bit. So whatever you do, don’t forget to bring it home with you!!
  • Pads, and lots of them at all different sizes. The big heavy ones are great for the first week, not only for your little friend, but also just for comfort. Oh and don’t forget to invest in some big old granny panties! Because those big pads are just not going to be comfortable in your normal underwear… So go pick up some comfy hanes for $10
  • Padsicles – have you heard of these? if not, they are a MUST!!!! a couple weeks before you are due, get some pads, throw some Witch Hazel on them and then pop them in the freezer… when you get home from the hospital those bad boys will be your best friend!! Oh, and while your at the hospital make sure to ask the nurse for some if she doesn’t offer, they keep them in the freezer there, I would send Adam most the time to grab them for me. So make sure your husband is well aware of the kitchenette at the hospital! lol… here is a link on how to make them: http://intheknowmom.net/diy-padsicles-musthave-postpartum-item/

057-1024x735

  • Breastfeeding clothes and bras – I had only one bra, and a shirt…. Target has some awesome tank tops and bra’s. I went out the first week and stocked up. I really like the  Gilligan & OMalley Nursing Bras and the tanks! You will literally be living in these things, so you need enough so that your not constantly doing the laundry (because there will be many nights you wake up drenched – not fun)

I like these ones for night time…

freebies2deals-target-nursing-bras

And these ones for during the day… gilligan-omalley-nursign-bra

and these clip down nursing tanks are seriously the best…. I live in these!

- these are also great and super cheap!! I wear these alot when I leave the house!! and they are long enough to wear with tights :) http://www.babybeminematernity.com/Before-After-Maternity-Nursing-T-Shirt-p/t101.htm

  • Mother Tucker Leggings – these are amazing and I live in them!! they are compression, and literally go up to your boobs. They make you feel so much better about your body in the first month when everything is still jiggly. http://www.babyjoy.ca/product-p/bb530013blk.htm (also baby joy has free shipping :)

0010030000032I first heard about these leggings and the belly bandit, from watching this girls youtube videos! When you are in the third trimester and just stuck to the couch her videos are a great way to kill time… lol

  • Kuerig :) I bought this the week before I had Logan, and it has been awesome because I can just make one cup of tea or coffee at a time! and saves me from wasting a whole pot! Also makes it easier for when you have visitors… and great way to still have your starbucks when you are stuck at home
  • Netflix – As a nursing mom you spend alot of time just sitting while your baby feeds… and if you have a kid like me you spend hours in you glider. I have my ipad set up beside the glider and I just watch shows and movies all day and all night… lol, and of course surf pinterest every now and then. Ps. the show “The Killing” on netflix is awesome!! all 4 seasons got me through my first month!! haha….
  • Dry Shampoo – for obvious reasons :) mommy doesn’t get to shower as often as she used to!
  • A good phone App to track everything! I use “Baby Nursing” and literally track and time everything… because you will be amazed at how much you need to know about how often your baby feeds, poops and sleeps! and not to mention tracking the colour of poop lol… and in your first month, you will be so tired you will forget when you did 5 minutes ago! so this app is super helpful.
  • Baby Susher App – this is worth the $5 over and over again!!! it’s amazing… and really helps Logan sleep (ANYWHERE) I truly recommend it for some white noise < I just ordered the actual shusher off amazon :) thats how much we love this thing!! > http://www.amazon.ca/Sleep-Miracle-Baby-Shusher-Control/dp/B00FGY8KCU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415030548&sr=8-1&keywords=baby+shusher

baby-shusher-1

Our first month was really tough with Logan because he would get the worst gas pains – it is so heartbreaking when your baby is upset and uncomfortable and there is literally nothing you can do to help them. We tried everything, and the only thing that would calm him would be to bounce on an exercise ball (which is fine for the first 15 minutes, but let me tell ya – mommy and daddy are going to have to see a chiropractor soon lol) It wasn’t until lots and lots of late night research that I learned fennel really helps babies digestive system. So one night while I was on my hour break from baby duty and Daddy was looking after Logan I was scoping out the health food isle at the Loblaws superstore and came across this nursing tea by Lunar Eclipse. I thought it was worth a shot since it had all natural ingredients, one being fennel – and it said right on the front it was to help with colic. Well let me tell ya, I went home – had a cup … and he sleep for 8 HOURS THAT NIGHT!!!!! I was in disbelief…. and when he woke up and fed, still no pain, no fuss – I felt like I was in a dream… he went back to sleep for another 3 hours… so that day I had another cup in the afternoon and same thing, he was having no pains. (only the normal fuss, diaper changes, tired etc…) The next night he slept for another 6 hours… Now I am not saying this is a cure all, but for all you parents out there that are living on no sleep with a crying baby that just can’t be settled – this is worth a shot! I have talked to my doctor about it, and he was happy with the all natural ingredients… and fingers crossed it keeps working for us!!! but I thought I had to share this with people because I know how heartbreaking and frustrating it can be, when neither you and baby are sleeping and you are stuck in the house.

here is the link: http://www.lunareclipse-babies.com/page7/nursingtea.html

lunar-nursing-tea

And for all you soon to be mommys out there! Make sure to watch some video’s of Dr Harvey (Baby whisperer lol… ) he’s the guy that wrote Happiest Baby on the Block … and let me tell ya! It took me a couple weeks to find out about these little tricks – and boy they could have helped those first couple weeks!! here’s a link to the youtube video….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK4O9N3DjJM

Also, this chick is on to something as well (she was on Oprah after all :)!! I am definitely starting to recognize his cries and getting alot quicker at finding out what is troubling him…http://www.pinterest.com/pin/190628996703050134/

That is our first month list in a nutshell :) and just remember this first month is all about survival… make sure to accept help! I can”t even begin to explain how amazing our parents and family have been through this! from bringing meals, to sleeping over and lending extra hands or even just coming for an hour and letting me shower. And make sure to get of the house as much as you can, even for a 15 minute walk around the neighbourhood – fresh air makes you feel so much better!

Logan’s Birth Story

26 Oct

We were blessed with a beautiful baby boy on September 29th, 2014

** Logan Anthony Berti ** 8lbs 14oz and 20 inches long!

IMG_6707

I want to share my story because I think alot of the times people only tell pregnant woman the horror stories of labour and the negative side of things. I think each birth story is completely different. I know not everyone has a good experience, but I want people to know that some do. I was so blessed and can honestly say that my labour was extremely positive. Sure it was hard, and there were times I wasn’t sure if I could make it through it – But I did and as soon as I met my baby – I was just so overcome with love and amazement, everything else around me stood still. There are a few specific reasons though that made my labour so positive. #1 – would be I had an epidural, and it took my pain away instantly and let me relax during my labour. #2 would be, my husband – he was such an amazing support for me and just helped me through every minute. #3 would be my doctor and nurses – they were so great and made me feel so comfortable.

I gave birth to Logan at 39 weeks. My water broke at 3 am Sunday morning on September 28th. I was sleeping on the couch (where i had slept for most nights in the last stretch of my pregnancy. I had been very uncomfortable at the end and had to sleep sitting up). I woke up, and to be quite honest thought I had peed myself (which, for any of you that have been pregnant would know is not shocking to happen in the last month of pregnancy lol). As I walked to the bathroom I quickly realized my water had broke. After I cleaned myself up, I went upstairs to wake my husband Adam up. As I quietly woke him up and calmly told him my water broke and we would soon be meeting our baby, he jumped out of bed and was starting to get ready for the hospital. I told him to slow down and that just because my water broke didn’t mean we were heading to the hospital just yet. I called the hospital and they told me to come in around 8 am if contractions hadn’t started by then. So off we went to the hospital, but first we made a pit stop at my parents house to drop Griffy off. We got to the hospital and had an exam done, and contractions had started but were barely there.

It’s amazing how mother nature prepares you to have a baby. I could never understand why at the end of every woman’s pregnancy they actually WANTED to give birth. and after experiencing it all, I definitely see why. You just get so uncomfortable by the end and want to meet your little baby so bad that you actually wish upon labour! Atleast I did :)

At the hospital they told me they could either induce me (since my water broke I had to have the baby within 24 hours), or I could go home for couple hours and see if labour happened on it’s own – which would make the contractions a little more manageable. So I opted for the second choice of course! We left he hospital and went out for breakfast with Adam’s mom and sister, then headed to his mom’s house since she lives so close to the hospital and I laboured there for awhile with contractions, but they were still manageable. I got on the exercise ball, and as I got up to go get ready to head back to the hospital, another gush of water came out. Now the contractions were ramping up, and I could barely get myself ready for the hospital. Once we arrived back at the hospital at 2 in the afternoon, I was still only 2cm dilated. So they had to induce me with Oxycontin…and boy they weren’t kidding when they said the contractions would come on strong and intense fast! I had 3 hard hours of contractions, one of top of each other sometimes with no break in between. My nurse was great and knew I wanted an epidural whenever possible. So at 8pm that night, I was finally 3 cm, and she called the anesthesiologist. He came within 5 minutes! it was a miracle, I was in so much pain… I barely felt him do the epidural and it was INSTANT relief. Adam watched the monitor that he had been looking at earlier as he had been counting me through each contraction and watching the monitor for when they were starting to go down. As he looked at the monitor and saw the contraction getting stronger and stronger he looked at me in amazement and asked if I could feel it? I told him I couldn’t feel a thing, and then slowly fell asleep. A couple hours later the nurse came in to check and see if I had dilated anymore… And to our surprise I was 10 cm, and she told me to get ready to start pushing! We were in total shock, and then a little bit of panic sunk in as I asked her if my doctor was here yet. She told me we would start to push abit and then she would get someone to call him. He arrived shortly after that, and then I pushed for an hour and a half. I was so surprised that even though I had an epidural I could feel everything. It was just alot of pressure, no pain. I could move my legs abit and was able to take control of pushing.  At 1:41 am, our little angel arrived… I can’t even begin to describe the feeling I had as I saw him – it is something completely indescribable. They let Adam cut the cord and then quickly whisked him over to a counter, as I just watched in amazement. They then laid him on my chest and I just stared at him as we both cried tears of joy and kept looking at eachother in disbelief that we made this special little boy. As he laid on my chest they examined him. When they told me he was a healthy boy my heart skipped a beat. All we wanted was for our baby to be okay.

We are so blessed and beyond grateful to have this little angel, and for our positive birth experience. Adam’s dad was definitely watching over us and making sure all was okay. There were many times where I prayed to him and all our guardian angels to help me through it and to make sure Logan would be okay.

I am so thankful for such an amazing husband and partner. I could not have made it through this experience without him. Watching him become a daddy has been the most incredible journey, and I have fallen in love with him all over again.

IMG_6386

Our lives have been changed forever by this little chubster, and he has made our hearts grown double the size. Being parents is definitely not easy – but it is so worth it. It’s amazing to look at this little baby and think he grew inside my tummy. Being a mommy is the most incredible and rewarding experience and I would do it all over again in a heart beat. I am so grateful for this little boy xox

Our Next Chapter …

22 Sep

I know I haven’t blogged in a long time – to be honest this has been a really hard year for our family. But I feel like I am ready now to share our next chapter with the world again :) so here is to a fresh start and documenting our incredible blessing that we are looking forward to. We are expecting our first child and feel so incredibly blessed to become parents, and just cannot wait to meet our baby for the first time.

We first found out we were pregnant in January of this year. My husband was working away, and the night he was coming home I decided to take a test. After I got 2 positives, my dog Griffin & I jumped in the car and headed to Shoppers to get a digital test – just so that I could really see the results – because it felt so surreal. After we came home we left a note at the door for Daddy … We hid behind the corner to hear his reaction (and record it on my iphone of course :)) when he read the card – it was such an emotional and incredible experience. We felt so blessed and excited to become parents. It was truly the perfect moment.

BabyB annoucement

We had our second ultrasound at 13 weeks – and it was another milestone in my memory. And incredible experience to see your baby forming and growing for the first time.

And now we are going to jump ahead to our maternity photos – at 34 weeks. They turned out great – and I am so happy we documented this growing baby in my belly. Its such a miracle this whole experience and I just want to treasure every moment.

Holiday Home Tour

9 Jan

I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas Holiday & Happy New Year. Our family had the best time, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time off. Although I was hoping to post this earlier, the holidays got the best of me and I didn’t get a chance until now. I wanted to share with you guys the progress of our new home. There is so much to show, but I am going to leave certain rooms with the “before & afters” for another time. I am just going to give you the main rooms and let you take a peak into our home decorated for Christmas.

We have done alot of painting, cleaning and re-organizing over the holidays. We also hosted an  Ugly Sweater Party and Christmas dinner for 20 – so I thought I would show you how I decorated for that as well. (I may have gotten a little carried away, but I just love hosting fun parties).

Let’s start with the entry…

One of the first things we did was replace the pendant lights over the kitchen island ….I chose these clear west elm pendants to make the kitchen a little brighter

Now the only mistake I made was buying the west elm bulbs – I loved them in the picture because they gave off that industrial restoration hardware look. However, because our kitchen cabinets are a cream colour, it just gave off a yellowish light that was not flattering for my kitchen, so I just put in normal clear 40 Watt bulbs.

Here is the BEFORE

And here are the new kitchen pendants hanging in our kitchen – I think they turned out great.

I am in LOVE with my new counter kitchen stool chairs. My parents got them for us as an early Christmas present. They are from restoration hardware.

The dining room is off the kitchen – I found this awesome chandelier from an antique store downtown Bowmanville, and I think it brings alot of character to our older home. I was going to paint it white however, once I got it home and saw it with my white slip covered chairs etc, I realized I actually liked the gold and thought it added more character to the house.

BASEMENT TOUR….

One of the best things we chose to do was to paint the brass pieces on the fireplace in the basement. I looked on pinterest (of course) and found some tutorials and before & afters – I used BBQ spray paint because it is heat resistant for high temperatures. I was able to take each piece off and spray them outside which was great. I didn’t realize before then that you those pieces just clip on and off.

Here is the paint I used:

We started out by painting the basement with Gray Owl – which is exactly the same colour we used in the basement at our old house. Since we had just finished that basement and loved it so much, we thought we would make the new one similar.

Here is a little flashback to what the basement looked like BEFORE:

Christmas is in the air….

12 Dec

I have some photos coming your way of our new home – decorated for Christmas. However, I am just working on some before and afters right now… so until then I thought I would post some Christmas inspiration to get us all in the mood :) I have been so busy the past two weeks with unpacking, cleaning, painting and getting our house together. I am loving every minute of it though! The house is really coming together, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.

Upstairs I am doing a white theme (surprising I know ;) ) – with silver and gold accent. And in the basement I doing a red tartan theme, a little more rustic.

I’M BACK & Moving on :)

19 Nov

Well, not even really sure where to begin, as I feel like I have just been in a whirl wind for the past few months. About once a day I would say to myself that I really need to sit down and get back into the blog, but I just felt like I had so many things to share with you guys that I didn’t know where to start. However, today is the day….. I am going to start with a quick recap of our life lately. :)

Mid September we took a trip down to Florida to go visit our friends. The day before we leave, I take a quick peek on mls.ca just to see what houses are available (this is not out of the ordinary as I usually take a look every few days just to make sure I don’t miss out on something wonderful). Now you are probably thinking – were you planning on moving? Answer: Not really. haha. My husband and I had been talking about it for awhile and decided maybe in the spring we would get our house ready to sell and then start looking more seriously. Well, back to the day before we leave for Florida – I message Adam in a panic telling him I have found this incredible house that has EVERYTHING on our wishlist and is somewhat affordable lol. I tell him that I just have to see this house tonight because it is to good to be true!! Adam is working that night and can’t go with me, so I tell him i will go and just see if it’s worth him going to see before we leave for Florida.

I go to see the house….. it is everything and more! I love the kitchen, layout, ravine, pool, hot tub and totally private backyard. When Adam came home from work that night I told him he would have to go see it the next day before we leave for Florida! So fast forward to the next day. Adam works till 6pm, we meet our realtor at the house around 630pm and Adam takes a look around and of course just gives me THAT look and says “Katie, obviously this house is beautiful and I love it – but we are leaving for Florida in an hour, what do you expect me to do here?” At that moment I knew he was right, we couldn’t make such a hasty decision – literally life altering when you are talking that kind of money. (Adam is way more sensible when it comes to finances and big decisions). I told him I knew he was right but at the same time I didn’t want us to lose out on this house and regret it later on. So our amazing realtor who had obviously been through this type of situation before made us feel better by saying “listen guys, you don’t have to make a decision tonight, why don’t we get some more info on the house (age of windows, roof etc) and then as long as you can get to a fax machine we can do the offer from Florida.” That was perfect, I was happy because we didn’t necessarily back away from the house and Adam was happy because he didn’t have to bite the bullet right then and there and buy this house.

So we leave for Florida…we drove down which took about 2 days, then stayed at Adam’s parent’s condo for a night and then headed to see our friends living in Boca. I had just told our friends about this amazing home and how much we loved it when I got an email from our realtor explaining that they had got an offer and taken it right away…. My heart was broken… I couldn’t believe we didn’t even have the chance to put in a bid or anything. Adam was in shock and obviously felt horrible knowing how much I loved the house and I think reality set in a bit of how quickly good things go in this market. Our realtor explained they have a week of conditions and that anything could happen so he will stay on top of it and let us know if anything changes.

Fast forward to the end of our trip. The last night we were in Florida we met up with Adam’s cousin’s family and were having a wonderful time catching up. We got a call from our realtor late that night saying the other buyers are asking for an extension and if we can get to a fax machine within the next hour then we can send them a firm offer which could beat out the extension. Adam and I didn’t even need to think about it – the only problem was we were thinking where the hell can we find a fax machine at 10 at night??? Thank the heavens that his cousin’s wife just happened to be a realtor in her previous career and still had her fax machine! So that was it – we signed the documents and sent them off and within an hour or two our realtor called and said it was ours :) We were so happy!!!

When we woke up the next day reality set in…. Now we have to drive home immediately and go and get our house ready to sell. Talk about stressful!!! Once we were home we spent the next 3 days just cleaning and purging. Then our house went on the market – and luckily we had someone come in firm on the 3rd day! It was such a relief… Neither Adam or I had ever been through anything like this before because our current house Adam had built, so we had never been through this whole process. And what a process it is!! Luckily with a great realtor, it really does take alot of the stress off.

So fast forward to today… I am currently still packing and getting ready for the move. We move FRIDAY!!!! and I cannot wait. We are so excited for this new chapter. I will be sad to leave our home because it is where we started our little family together with our dog Griffin, but I am excited for the new memories we are going to make in our new home.

I am going to share with you a couple of pictures of the house, but believe me – I will be blogging alot more :) I have some much inspiration for this house and ideas, I can’t wait to share them with you!

Healthy Pinterest Recipe Ideas

10 Jul

Can you believe we are already in July? Isn’t that crazy?

Summertime everyone always want to look their best, and it’s great because you are so much busier and enjoying most your time outside. However, in the summer you are also eating out on the patio at restaraunts more, enjoying alcoholic beverages (a whole lot more) and attending a lot more parties (that usually involve both eating and drinking). So this summer I am vowing to make some healthy choices, especially during the week so that I can indulge on the weekends.

I have found lots of great recipes on pinterest and thought I would share some with you!

I am 100% not a breakfast person. Literally I could go until noon with only having coffee, but I know that is so bad. So I have started a new routine that I am LOVING. I prep a morning shake every night before bed with my lovely magic bullet – and down it on my way to work. It not only tastes great, but I now crave it in the morning and it keeps my energy up in the morning!

This is the formula I started with….

My usual shake consists of: A cup of almond milk, scoop of chocolate whey Protein, flax seed and a handful of blueberries, bananas and spinach (I switch up the fruit every so often)

RECIPES I’VE TRIED =)

Although most my dinners consist of quinoa, sweet potato, veggies and chicken – I have been trying to incorporate some new ideas. Tonight, I had fish taco’s with a chipotle sauce with greek yogurt – It was delicious!!! (however, start with only one or two peppers, mine was a little hot).

For the Chipotle Yogurt Sauce:
  • 6 ounces plain Greek yogurt
  • 3 chilis in adobo sauce, chopped plus 1 tablespoon adobo sauce (I use canned chipotle chilis in adobo sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice, zest of ½ lime
  • Salt to taste

You can find the recipe, along with her homemade turkey burger recipe here: http://www.theroastedroot.net/southwest-turkey-burgers-with-chipotle-yogurt-sauce/

Loved this soup!

Heat 2 teaspoons canola oil in a pot; cook 1 diced onion and 2 sliced carrots for 6 minutes. Add 1 pound thinly sliced boneless raw chicken thighs, 1 cup sliced mushrooms, 2 sliced celery stalks, and 2 minced garlic cloves; cook 5 minutes. Add 4 cups chicken broth, 1 cup water, 3/4 cup quinoa, 4 sprigs thyme, and salt and pepper. Boil, reduce heat, and simmer about 15 minutes, till quinoa is tender.

Went to a party on the weekend and made this dip!! So simple and yummy!!

Made these spinach turkey meatballs the other night, Adam loved em!!! (however, I didn’t use any bread crumbs)

Recipes I still need to try……
