Logan’s First Birthday

29 Sep

Let me start out by saying …

I CANNOT believe my baby is ONE <insert crying face here>

I seriously cannot get over how fast this first year has gone. This little boy has changed our lives so much, and we are obsessed! He is the sweetest little ginger boy with the most beautiful blue eyes. He is smart, head strong, funny and down right loud when he wants to be :) I just wish I could freeze time – he is so fun and we are loving watching him evolve into his own little person.

IMG_2750 IMG_2758

We decided for Logan’s first birthday we would have a fun fall theme …

Logans first rodeo

I started out by making all the thank you goody bags for the kids. I found theses awesome beach pales for $1 each as they were on the summer clearance at Party City. I then filled them with tissue paper, cowboy rubber ducky, tambourine & snack that reflected their age.

I made a banner for Logan’s highchair from my banner kit that I got on sale at Party City, and then just cut strips of white tissue paper and tied them onto the string.IMG_2745

Luckily the weather was awesome at the end of September so we were able to host the party outside. I got this awesome backdrop from Open a Party <online> for $9.99. I then got the hay from a local home hardware store!

Link for the backdrop: http://openaparty.com/open-a-party-shop/product_info.php/barn-door-wall-props-p-7179

I ordered the balloons online from the same store (Open a Party) because they were super cheap so I thought I would save myself money by getting my own Helium tank ….. WRONG!!!! I will not be doing that again. I ended up needing TWO tanks lol… <$60 in total> I know I know, it’s insane… and then they didn’t even last till morning <insert even more disappointment lol> however, I ended up tying them around the deck and they still looked great. But – Lesson Learned!!!!!!IMG_2784

Since our theme was based around FALL (which I love) I thought I would hit up a local farm and get some nice apples and make Sangria!

(3 bottles white wine, 1 bottle sparkling apple cider, little bit of gingerale & cut up apples)

I got these Party Plates on sale at Party City and the Bandana napkins from Open a Party online. IMG_2830

I had the outfit Logan wore home from the hospital framed <3 so added that to the table as well

IMG_2838I made sure to have lots of toddler food options: Goldfish, cut up fruit, Pasta etc…

I left a Happy Birthday book out by Dr Seuss for everyone to leave Logan a little messageIMG_2846

I set up a table with all the Goody bags for the kids who came to the party!

We had cowboy hats, handkerchiefs and Deputy Sheriff badges for everyone to sport! And most people wore plaid which was so fun :) I had a little sign there that said “GIT YER GEAR” heheIMG_2852

I made this milestone poster for Logan’s birthday. Just took a roll of brown paper that I got from winners, and some markers. Then added his monthly pictures at the bottom

How cute is this wanted poster???? <3 such a cute little cowboy! I printed off some paper ones and put them around outside as well.

We had a wheel barrow set up full of ice with drinks & then a table with the Sangria and alcoholIMG_2914

My best friend is pretty talented and painted this awesome cut out of a cowboy so we made sure to get lots of pictures with it! isn’t it hilarious?? I just love it!

I got this AMAZING cake & smash cake from a lady in Newcastle – you need to check out her website! I will be ordering all my cakes from her from now on. It not only looked good, it was delicious!!!!

Here is her facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/goodtothelastcrumbcakesbykristina

and here is her website: http://goodtothelastcrumb.wix.com/cake

Logan absolutely loved the cake, he ate almost half of it haha, and then tried to get me with it!!!

IMG_3106he’s such a little ham, I love it <3

I got Logan a onesie that said Logan’s First Rodeo – it was SOOO cute!! and unfortunately I don’t have any great pictures of him only wearing that, but here is one from him opening presents.

I ordered it from Hayden Rose Collection – she was so fast and made it within the week for me and is located in Whitby! The onesie was $21 and I would definitely recommend ordering from her.

Here is her facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/HaydenRoseCollection

And of course our adorable Dog had to get in on the action too ;)

I ordered the majority of the decorations from this website: https://openaparty.com/open-a-party-shop/default.php

they have flat rate shipping in CANADA, and they have so much to choose from that is so cheap!!! I will definitely be ordering from them again in the future.

I got the following from the site

  • Bandana napkins
  • cow print lanterns
  • cow print table cloth
  • balloons
  • mini rubber ducky cowboys & animals
  • wanted sign
  • barn doors backdrop
  • pack on Bandanas
  • pack of sheriff badges
  • Cowboy hat for Logan

here’s the link for the western party supplies: http://openaparty.com/open-a-party-shop/index.php/birthday-and-party-supplies-canada-western-theme-all-party-supplies-c-65_436#bc

The party turned out even better than we expected – and Logan was totally spoiled with love & gifts by all our family and friends.

Playhouse Under the Stairs

28 Sep

We decided for Logan’s first birthday we would make him a playhouse. We had a little space under our basement stairs with a little door that we thought would be the perfect spot for him to play. It was a completely unfinished space, with no drywall or flooring. We finished it up and I just had to share it with you :) it turned out pretty awesome!

Unfortunately I forgot to take a BEFORE picture…. but here is the space just as the drywall was going up

My husband started with putting up the drywall, and framing the space.

We took an old shelf we had sitting in the garage and my husband cut it in half and then cut them on angle to create a little roof for the outside of the house.

IMG_2013Then came the window! We had to make it small, since we didn’t want to mess with much of the framing since that space was supporting the stair case. Also, we had a lot of piping through there and electrical. My husband had to make the central vac line in order to create the window.

IMG_2167Once that was done, I got started on the painting. I used Navy Chalkboard paint by Benjamin Moore. I thought it would be fun to make the outside with chalkboard paint so  that we can write stuff for Logan and he can use it as he gets older. The colour I used was Newburyport Blue – and it turned out great!!!!

IMG_2367Once the walls were up and painted inside, we luckily got some left over flooring from a friend. My husband put the flooring in and then put up the trim.

I got the light from Canadian Tire, and found this really awesome Alphabet wall decal from Walmart!!

And here is the final product….. I am so happy with how it turned out. Logan absolutely loves it – the window is the perfect height for him and he is constantly going in and out all day long. I added a little hockey sign in the front that ties it into the rest of the decor in our man cave basement. I also added a little mailbox  and house numbers (both from Home Depot).

We are so happy we made this. We spent a lot of long nights working on it after Logan was in bed, but I really think it will be something he uses for a long time. It also is a great use of space – it went from storing our luggage to a super cute hang out. It also didn’t cost us much… We had left over drywall & trim and we got the flooring from a friend. So really it was just the paint and accessories that cost us money.

Glad I got to share it with you :) I will be posting Logan’s Birthday Party soon! Stay tuned….

Playroom Inspiration

20 Sep

Since before I had Logan, I would dream of all the amazing things I would do for my kids. I would think about all the cool imaginative spaces I would create for them. Now that I have Logan, those dreams have gone into over drive! As a parent you just want to give your child the most incredible childhood that they will remember for the rest of their lives. I want to make sure that Logan has the best memories with his family and enjoys playing in our home.

We have a 5th bedroom in the basement that my husband apparently has big plans of knocking down the wall and extending his “MAN CAVE” to create a bar area – however, I have put those plans on hold with the argument that Logan might want his bedroom down there once he’s a teenager… ;) But either way, I think it will be the perfect playroom once Logan is a little older and we have more kids. But for now – we are keeping the “play space” on the main level since Logan isn’t big enough to be playing downstairs by himself. Luckily we have a second family room that we use as the child friendly play space :) I still have a few more things to do, but once that is done I will take some pictures and share with you :)

We also have a little cubby under the stairs in our basement that Adam & I are currently turning into a playhouse for Logan’s first Birthday! We are having so much fun doing it and I can’t wait to share it with you once it’s complete. I got the idea off pinterest of course, and here are a couple ones we love…

I think it’s so important for a child’s development to have a space where they use their imagination and can pretend play all day long!  Now although I have a little boy – I really try and keep most things gender neutral so if we have more kids in the future it won’t matter! Pinterest is the best place to get creative ideas – and since I am totally addicted I have put together some inspiration for all you parents (or soon to be :))

I love that these spaces are transitional throughout your home, and even if it’s in a main area you can still tie in your own home decor.

Stay tuned for our UNDER THE STAIRS PLAYHOUSE reveal :)

Disney Cruise 2015 (with baby)

4 Sep

We went on a Disney Fantasy Cruise April 2015 – and it was INCREDIBLE!!!! cruising with Disney was an amazing experience – they make traveling with kids so easy! We went with my Husband’s side of the family – there was 7 adults and 6 kids (6 kids under 7 – 2 of them babies under 8 months). Yup it was pure chaos at times but Disney made it manageable and so much fun!!

Traveling with a baby is always stressful – you just don’t know how the day is going to unfold and having them fall asleep on the go is always tricky. Especially if you have a pretty solid routine – which we do. Luckily Logan was really good. Our flight ended up being delayed an hour on the runway while we were on the plane. Logan slept that whole time and then as soon as we took off he was up – so I definitely thought we were in for disaster but luckily (thanks to an iphone video, pacifier & bottle) we traveled without a melt down! he actually slept for most the trip to Florida. We also brought both our Uppa Baby stroller and our Baby Bjorn carrier. Adam wore him through the airport security which helped free up our hands and saved us from having to take him out of the stroller. We flew with Air Canada and just gate checked our stroller (make sure you if your stroller comes apart, to tag both pieces).

Adam wore Logan most the time and he loved being able to look around and see everyone – a good distraction :) And our stroller was helpful for taking all our bags! Coming into the Florida Port we had a set time to get through everything and it was seamless. Hardly any people and we walked right through. IMG_3718

LobbyIMG_4487  IMG_4485

We usually hung out on the top deck, as you got a good view of the movie screen (they play disney movies 24/7 on the big screen) and you could always find more empty chairs there!

They had a water slide that wrapped around the entire top deck – it was so much fun! All the adults even took turns on the slide!!

Luckily our room had a balcony and our family all had adjoining rooms (and adjoining balconies). Both these things were KEY with traveling with kids, especially babies. Having the balcony allowed us to sit outside and enjoy a few drinks while Logan napped or slept at night. (if you order the wine package, you can bring the bottles back to your room :)) And since the pack N play Logan slept in was near the sliding door, we ended up just using the adjoining room to go out on to the balcony so we didn’t have to disturb Logan (however, if you had older children that wouldn’t matter) And there is a curtain which seperates the room for you between where the kids sleep and the main bed which was awesome. The rooms are very spacious and all come equipped with a couch that turns into a bed and a top bunk bed that drops down from the ceiling if you need. They have two separate bathrooms, one with a toilet and the other with a shower that makes getting ready with multiple people a lot easier. The shower also had a small circular bath tub which is great for small children.

Here’s a pic of the room beside us with the bunk beds…IMG_3747

Disney really knows what they are doing and has so much available for your room! They provide you (upon request when you board the ship) with a pack & play, bottle sterilizer, bottle warmer and diaper pale. And all at no charge! They also provide really nice shampoo and body wash from the spa on the ship.

They even have little bath tubs in the bathrooms in order to bath your little one! talk about convenient!!

They play Disney movies all day and night of the ship, it’s pretty awesome! Even for us parents who love a good old school Disney Movie :)

We spent most the day in the Finding Nemo Splash pad with the Logan and his cousins! Logan had a blast – he loved the water. (Also side note, no swim diapers allowed in the pool, so make sure to potty train your toddler before you take the trip if you want them to enjoy the pool on deck). If not they can just hang in the splash pad like Logie :)

We went for Dinner at the Animators restaurant and it was awesome! SO cool to see all the cartoons come to life! One great thing about dining with Disney is that you have the same servers every night. They make it so special for the kids and always have little surprises waiting for them. Along with cups with their names on it and they make sure to take the kids orders first, that way they are eating their meals while we are ordering and then they are having dessert while we have our dinner. It is an awesome process because it helps eliminate the meltdowns! IMG_4958

There is actually a running track that goes around the boat on a lower deck. Adam was great about taking Logan and just walking around for an hour while he slept in the stroller. I think the fresh air really helped – because Logan would be asleep instantly and it saved us from having to go back and forth to the room.

The buffet on the pool deck was awesome! Wish I had some pictures to share with you because they literally had everything you could imagine and the food was really good and fresh. Most the time we had breakfast there and would have eggs and fruit. But they also had sushi, pizza, pastries, you name it!

You can always catch characters in the main lobby, and although before dinner the lines were pretty long – they did go quite fast! Make sure you download the Disney App on your phone because then you can track where the Disney characters are at all times. IMG_3920

The second night we had dinner in the Secret Garden – it’s a really cool restaurant that has flowers on the ceiling that change colours as the sun goes down. IMG_3928

Here is a picture of the starter salad I had… IMG_3930

As soon as you get off the boat, there is a small area where you can grab Mojitos – and a couple of shops, but really not much more than that. We took a water taxi (about a 5 minute boat ride) over to where the beach, restaurants & shops were.

IMG_3970Logan loved the boat ride!!

Where you dock in San Juan, enables you to walk around the city no problem. You don’t need to take any transportation unless you want to head to the beach or do an excursion. Because we didn’t bring the car seat for Logan we only walked places from the boat. We walked around the city for a while and then sat on a patio and enjoyed a beer!

We stopped at a patio for a bottle and some beers :)IMG_4103

After touring around for the morning we headed back to the ship and straight to the splash pad to cool off

After watching Mickey and the other characters play basketball with some kids and got to catch them for a picture as they were leaving. That’s one thing that is amazing about these characters, they really take the time to meet each kid and just know how to make them feel so special. IMG_4962

We then had to go back to the room and get ready for Pirate Night!!! which was sooo much fun – everyone on the ship dresses up and then there is a pirate show on the top deck at night with a character musical and fireworks! For Christmas I bought everyone in the family Disney Shirts – so we all wore them on the Pirate night which was fun! Disney also provides everyone with the red bandana’s and eye patches. There is an early show on the top deck with all the characters, and then a later show at 10pm with fireworks which is definitely a must see!! It’s honestly incredible!!

I ordered our shirts from here: http://www.logantolayla.com/

Castaway Cay is Disney’s own Island in the BAHAMAS and it was by far our favorite stop! We stopped here at the end of the trip and honestly wished we had have been able to stay longer than one day. It is so convenient (only a 5 minute walk, or short train ride to the beach) and literally has everything. There are a ton of beach chairs (free of charge) and fun water slides in the ocean along with lots of activities to do! There are different shops on the island and the best part was the free buffet area (also free of charge) they had constant food and snacks available which was really nice – and yummy! There are also lots of characters walking around so it’s a great opportunity for photo ops or getting signatures! They also had some cool trails around the island that you could either walk or rent bikes!

View from the boat:

Logan’s first time in the ocean <3IMG_4852

This is the water slide in the ocean that you had to swim out to, it was super fun – even for us adults :)IMG_4823

They also have a splash available for the younger kids that was a great place to cool off IMG_4778

Logan’s first swim in the ocean and he loved it! IMG_4752

This is a picture I took of the boat docked – isn’t the water just amazing? IMG_4952

  • Get the Disney Ship APP – that way you always know what going on at any time around the ship. They give you the Characters schedules do you know where to find them for pictures, show times and your families dining information.
  • Take advantage of the daycare on board & the adult area. That is one thing I regret – we didn’t end up using the daycare and we only discovered the adult area the last two days of the trip – which was really awesome. When you were in that area you didn’t even feel like you were on a Disney boat. They had adult pools, bars and lounging areas. It was super relaxing and great place to recharge. My niece and nephews that were older went to the kids club, and they give the kids these electronic bracelets so that they know they are safe and the kids absolutely love going!
  • Bring stuff for the characters to sign! And instead of carrying around your book everywhere, just drop your item off at the front desk and they will give it back to you at the end of the cruise with all the signatures :) it’s a great keep sake! I dropped off the matting from a picture frame and the characters signed all around it so that we could frame some of our trip pictures in it.
  • If you are travelling with a baby make sure you have all the essentials in your carry on! Also make sure to pack extra – I actually ran out of formula and luckily found a similar one to what Logan was taking at a Pharmacy in St Maarten. In our carry on, I packed formula (then just used bottles of water to make them), bottles, squeeze pack baby food, diapers, wipes, and clothes for that day since you don’t know what time your luggage will be delivered to your room.
  • Make sure to bring the comforts of home with you – I brought the white noise we always play in Logan’s room, his sleep sheep, along with his favorite blanket and sleep sack. I wanted to make sure he had everything he had at home, so that we will have a successful nights sleep even while travelling. We also brought the monitor so that we could have it on the balcony or in the room beside us.

Summer Baby Essentials

28 Jul

We have had such a blast this summer!!! Logan was at the perfect stage to enjoy our summer and be able to do so much!! Luckily for us we have a pool in our backyard and literally spend most our days in their splashing around :) He loves the water thank goodness! We also do lots of walks, play dates, trips to the park and family outings. Being off in the summer with him has been so amazing – I feel so blessed!

Sunscreen – I use the Badger Sunscreen mostly or this stick by substance for his face! Both these sunscreens are natural and don’t contain chemicals so they are safe for his little baby skin. I have also heard the honest company sunscreen is great too! We just haven’t had a chance to try it yet!

You can buy it at babyrama or online at many places! http://babyramacanada.com/xcart/Badger-Baby-Sunscreen-Cream-SPF-30.html

Substance Sunscreen stick is great for his face

We are so lucky to have a pool in our backyard, especially in this heat!! Logan loves the water and he is starting to kick his feet and learn to doggy paddle in my arms. He also just loves to float around in his swimming floats as I tug him around the pool :)

IMG_7433Swan – from Urban Outfitters: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=35044296&category=A_ENT_FUN

IMG_7414This little yellow float was $4 from Canadian tire! so I bought a couple for when we have baby pool parties :)

IMG_8728Donut pool float – Urban Outfitters: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=25073578&category=A_ENT_FUN

Although we have an in ground pool to swim in, I found it really handy to have a baby pool for Logan to splash around in… I got this cute frog one from Mastermind Toys, but you can also buy it online from Indigo https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/kids/toys/frog-baby-shade-pool/5050048057912-item.html?ref=by-shop%3atoys%3akids-toys-shopbyage-one%3atop-toys-age-1%3a1%3a it’s super cute and I like the fact it has a shade so I can keep him out of the sun.

Water toys – I bought this Sand toys Bag from Mastermind Toys and it has been awesome!! It comes in this waterproof bag and I just leave it on the deck for when we are outside. Logan loves the toys in it and is especially obsessed with this little wind meal …. http://www.mastermindtoys.com/B-Ready-Beach-Bag.aspx

IMG_7895He also LOVES boats – we have this one that he drags around the pool with him, but I think its time mommy invested in a few more so we can play with them in the bath too! http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=33188926

Theses squirty boats from Indigo would be great! https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/baby/gifts/boat-party-squirties/077539405057-item.html?ikwid=boat+toys&ikwsec=Baby&ikwidx=0

Hooded towels – are KEY if you are in and out of the water. This towel is from Walmart and is super handy – It stays on him and then I am able to just put him in the highchair or we sit and play while he dries off before going into the house with the AC.

IMG_7585We also got this adorable towel made for Logan – that was personalized. A friend of mine has started her own business and does a wonderful job!!! check out her facebook page – “Dots of Love” https://www.facebook.com/dotsoflovebyviolet?fref=ts The towels are around $30 and great for taking places because then you aren’t losing your towel or having someone take it by mistake!! (She also does Hooded towels :))

Pack N Play – we never really used our Pack N Play much in the first couple months like I thought we would, but once Logan was sitting up on his own and moving alot more we started using it quite abit. It has been great for on the deck and makes things easy so I can set him down if I have to run in the house or clean the pool etc. We have also been using it when we sleepover other places. Ours is by Graco from Toys R Us.

Traveling highchair – this has been key for us this summer!! Since we spend so much time outside, we also ate a lot of our dinners outside on the deck too. It was also a nice sensory activity for Logie because he could get as messy as he wanted outside and then our dog Griffin would get to clean up the mess while we went for bath time!! We have this little travel highchair from Toys R us, that is super portable and really easy to clean. PLUS its cheap :) http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=12879951

Walmart has these ADORABLE little Adirondack chairs for toddlers for $5 !!!!! so cute & super affordable!!

Painting fun – This is a great sensory activity for babies! They get to feel the neat texture of the paint between their fingers (and toes hehe) and get to just smash it around everywhere. Plus its super easy to make just food colouring & yogurt!!

Here is a link for some creative ways to do sensory activities that get those little brains stimulated :) http://theimaginationtree.com/2012/06/baby-play-ideas-and-activities-6-18.html

Now if only the summer could last forever ……

6 – 9 Month baby Essentials

24 Jul

This boy is the light of our life – he seriously makes us so incredibly happy. This stage with Logan has been so fun!! His big personality has totally come through and he’s just the cutest little ham. During these 3 months so much happened for Logan, from sitting on his own, to rolling, to crawling backwards and interacting with us so much more. During this stage he was sleeping amazing (usually 630pm to 7am – with no night wake ups) and then having 2-3 naps a day (anywhere from an hour to two hours).

IMG_5147 IMG_6212

Between 5 and 6 months we had to transition Logan to his big boy car seat because we had almost maxed out the weight on his Maxi Cosi infant car seat. After endless research and lots of recommendations from other moms we decided on the Britax Marathon. We love this car seat not only because it’s one of the safest on the market because it is comfy, easy to clip and is idiot proof for putting in the car. It has a click tight technology so there is no guessing if you have the car seat in snug enough. Once you hear the click you literally can’t even budge it, it’s so tight.

The Marathon ClickTight converts from a rear-facing position (for babies 5-40 lbs.) to a forward-facing position (for children 20-65 lbs.)

Around 6 months is when I started weaning Logan. His teeth were coming in fast & furious (side note: those tiny teeth are more like shark teeth than human teeth) and honestly he was just eating so much, my breast milk wasn’t satisfying him enough anymore. Luckily Logan took a bottle from the beginning and we had introduced formula in the beginning occasionally – as I never really liked to pump and found he always cleaned me dry so there wasn’t much to pump for him. So I weaned him for a couple of months, just replacing feeds with a bottle one at a time, starting with a bottle before bed. I stopped nursing just after Logan was 8 months, and really it just came down to one day he just wasn’t wanting to nurse and went the whole day without it, so I figured it was time to throw in the towel.

For bottles Logan would usually have a 6-8 oz bottle in the morning, then 4-6 ounce after each nap and then an 8 ounce bottle before bed.

We used the Goodstart formula with pro-biotic in it, and always used the Dr Brown bottles! Now if you are going to formula feed at all – you NEEEEED the baby Brezza formula Pro – this gadget is literally life changing. My parents bought it for us for Christmas and it has been amazing (especially when one of the Grandma’s is babysitting because they can make him a bottle at the touch of a button). I will do a separate review on this – but honestly it saves you so much time!! it makes a perfect bottle with the touch of a bottle at the perfect temperature. It makes 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 ounce bottles. For like $200, this thing is priceless!!!

<<Ours was from Toys R US online, but you can also purchase off Amazon etc>>

Starting Solids

IMG_9323(as you can see things get a little messy – so easy clean up is KEY!!!!)

  • I ended up skipping the cereals and just going straight to sweet potato, pears and avocado. I tried the cereal once or twice and found it was hard on his tummy… so we went to the veggies and fruits and then slowly worked out way back to cereal (love the oatmeal by baby gourmet).
  • When starting the solids I ended up introducing a new food every 3 days. I also didn’t realize when I first started feeding Logan that they literally are only taking a tsp or two the first couple weeks…. (mommy fail – when I thought he could handle a whole bowl haha)
  • If you are going to attempt to make your own baby food, I highly recommend the baby brezza. It’s honestly amazing – it steams the food for you & then spins it into a puree (automatically once its done steaming), literally making clean up a breeze!

<<We got ours off Amazon)

  • I had bought different containers to freeze the food I made, but honestly just found it so much easier to use ice-cube trays. That way I could grab a couple cubes of different things and make my own mix. Which Logan really enjoyed – he liked having different mixtures instead of just one boring veggie at a time :) however, I waited a couple of weeks before doing that just to make sure he didn’t have any reactions to anything

  • I made about 50% of his food and then would also buy the squeeze packs that really come in handy when you are out and about or even just in a hurry! I love the baby gourmet ones because they are organic and have amazing combinations. http://babygourmet.com/ (you can get it at Loblaws or Walmart)
  • We then started introducing finger foods around 8 months – Mum Mum cookies, small pieces of toast with jam, cut up soft fruits like banana, blue berries etc) I found the finger foods took a little while for him to get the hang of but really helped him develop the pincer grasp and learn to chew.
  • Then between 8 and 9 months introduced Dairy products (Eggs: scrambled with formula or hard boiled, yogurt and cheese)

For toys – I have actually purchased a few toys second-hand off Varage (virtual garage sale) and have saved so much money and got some pretty awesome things!

  • Jolly Jumper – This was always Logan’s favorite, he would jump in it for hours sometimes. (he stopped using it around 9 months) I started putting his little rock & play table up to it and he would just play his music and it would keep him interested a little longer. (I got mine at winners but you can find it here, http://www.amazon.com/Playskool-Rocktivity-Stand-Music-Skool/dp/B0085UA8ZO it has also helped Logan with standing on his own).

IMG_4999  IMG_5935

  • Teepee – so I bought this for Christmas when Logan was 3 months old. I honestly bought it because I thought it would look cute in our family/playroom area and would be great to hide toys etc and didn’t think he would actually use it until he was one or two haha. However, it has turned out to be a great investment. Starting around 6 months Logan loved going inside the tent and just staring around in it and playing peakaboo. He is still in love with it now at 9 months, and when he starts to get fussy or have a meltdown we just sit there with him and he is immediately happy! lol it’s pretty awesome. This teepee is from restoration hardware <link below>

  • Puppy Bean Bag Seat – my parents got this for Logan for Christmas and it was another thing we didn’t really think he would use to much until he was older – but it was a GREAT investment. He sits on it every day and loves to just lay on it and cuddle. It has actually helped him with starting to crawl because he leans on it and tries to climb over it. It is really cute – and has become one of his favorite things!

  • Radioflyer 3 in 1 – my Dad bought this for Logan from Costco at Easter. It is really awesome, and will transition to a bike and scooter later on! he loves being in it, and even holds the handle bars which just melts my heart with cuteness!! http://www.radioflyer.com/buildatrike.html

  •   I always read to Logan in the bath tub, we keep a basket of his favorite books in there and I find that’s when he pays the most attention to them. As soon as I grab a book he has the biggest smile on his face – it’s so cute!

Logan’s favorite books

  • DR SEUSS: “Mr Brown can MOO – can you?”
  • Nancy Tillman: “On the night you were born”
  • DR SEUSS: “Green Eggs & Ham”
  • DR SEUSS: “I can read with my eyes shut”
  • Eric Carle: “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”

Here are some highlights from the last couple months

Logan got baptized this past July with his cousin

IMG_8977Logan started riding in the cart – and absolutely loves it. It actually helps make our shopping trips longer because he has so much to look at and literally tries to grab anything within his reach lol… a whole new obstacle for mommy!

I still can’t get over how fast time goes when you become a mommy!!!! And cannot beleive my beautiful baby will be ONE soon (insert tears and ugly cry face)

Packing for Disney Cruise (with baby)

20 Apr

We are heading on a Disney Cruise with my husband’s family this weekend!!! We are so so excited!! But packing for a trip with a baby is a little different then when it was just the two of us :) requires a little more planning this time around!

We are going on the Disney FANTASY boat – and sailing the Caribbean :) We are stopping in SAN JUAN PUERTO RICO, ST MAARTEN & CASTAWAY CAY

faf2985f64221f50518571431900925e 1828d0bcf5690b876da28794684d05d7

We are going with Adam’s family and Logan’s 5 older cousins :) Luckily his cousin Leo is only 2 weeks older so they will have fun playing in the shade together! hehe

  • We packed tons of Hats for Logan – mostly bucket hats from Carters & H&M etc…I also ordered him this one by North Face that will give him full coverage – he is a fair haired ginger after all – so the sun is not his friend :)
  • Swim Suits – I packed swim trunks and also 4 one piece suits to give him more UV protection! Joe Fresh has some really cool ones

<“Little Surf Dude” : JOE FRESH / Whales: Carters>

  • Sunglasses – we have a pair of baby bandz & just a cute pair of black aviators from Carters (that Logan loves wearing thank goodness) But I also ordered him a pair of BABIATORS :) and I can’t wait for him to wear them!
  • Hooded Towels….We have a big finding Nemo one and I got this super cute cape one from Winners that makes it so easy to cover Logan up for $12. I also scored a shark cape towel from Walmart for $7.

  • For Christmas I ordered these shirts for our family and all Logan’s Cousins that were coming on the trip (there will be 6 kids going) And one for Grandma!

I ordered them from: http://www.logantolayla.com/

  • H&M has some great Disney clothes that are actually really cute & trendy! I got quite a few things for Logan there and even a cute Mickey sweater for myself.

IMG_2482_2(I think Logan was a little over the photo shoot :) haha)

  • Apparently when you go on the cruise you can bring something for all the characters to sign if you leave it at the front desk. I saw a couple really good ideas on Pinterest. The first one is to get a blank matted frame and get them to sign it so you can frame a family picture after. Or, the second is to get a pillow case and have them sign it. You can see an example of both below:

  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Lots of extra Pacifiers & Clips :)
  • Wubba nub pacifier for in the pack n play – he can find it so much easier in the night (link: http://www.toysrus.com/buy/pacifiers/wubbanub-infant-pacifier-yellow-duck-wn21196-10823569)

The one thing I love about our Uppa baby stroller is the big sun shade on it…

thBut I also bought two UV covers for when we are out in the Sunshine and Logan needs to sleep….I love that you can roll it up and just have the breathable mesh, and it’s almost water proof in case it rains. It can also fold up really tiny into a little bag.

Stroller Fan – I scored this off VARAGE for $3 – but you can find it here: http://www.amazon.ca/Outop-Random-Color-Stroller-Clip-/dp/B00RTBI3NO/ref=sr_1_14/188-9088176-0801351?ie=UTF8&qid=1429481840&sr=8-14&keywords=stroller+fan

It’s battery powered and has foam wings on it, so its super soft if baby touches it

I also borrowed a pair of Baby Ear muffs from s friend incase Logan needs them for sleeping in loud areas – such as at the shows etc. Worth a shot! lol

  • Wine Opener (Going to pick some up at the Duty Free- Disney cruises have less restrictions for bringing booze on board :))
  • Camera/ Charger/ Selfie stick
  • extra batteries
  • toiletries
  • Advil and other medications

I ordered a couple of bathing suits for the trip:

I got this swim suit from TRIANGL and love it! It’s one of the only bikini’s I will probably wear on the trip and it is super comfortable and I love the material!! Their sizing I found is also really accurate. And you can have a live chat with their employees and they will help you select a size. I ordered a small top and medium bottom!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetYou can order them here: http://international.triangl.com/collections/swimwear

(BUYER BEWARE though – it does not include Duty if you are ordering to Canada)

The second bathing suit I ordered was from Swim Spot – and I love it because I feel like its got great coverage and is really universal especially being a new mommy! As a mom you are constantly bending and Logan is always grabbing me. So I feel really comfortable that we won’t have any mishaps in it :) haha. I also love that I can just throw a pair of shorts on and wear it as a tank top to the beach or the pool.

Now BUYER BEWARE – I found the sizes for the top to be way off! I ended up having to send the top back and get a new one, and still it’s a little big. I managed to shrink it in the wash, but might actually have to get my mom to take in the straps a little bit.

You can order it here: https://www.swimspot.com/shop/tankini-tops/next-lined-up-double-up-tankini-top/black/

Believe it or not but Ardenes actually has some awesome bathing suits! and they are SUPER cheap – currently they have a buy one get one half off sale!

ardenes bikini top

I also got these awesome high waisted bottoms from American Eagle – I wasn’t sure if they would be my thing … but I love that you can roll them down if you want or wear them different ways. (and they are also buy one get one half off right now :))

Now – I also desperately needed a comfortable pair of sandals to wear. My feet actually never went back to their original size after being pregnant :( although they shrunk abit, a lot of my previous sandals just weren’t as comfortable anymore. I bought these from Sports Check – they are by SANUK and are actually made out of YOGA MAT material – cool eh? and the fabric that goes around your toes and ankle is SUPER soft.

Anyways, they are soooo comfortable!!! they were a really great purchase!! (I got mine in all black)

Since I have to share a suitcase and pack minimally…. I just grabbed easy stuff like maxi dresses, v kneck tshirts, shorts, and kimono’s. Luckily we don’t have to wear anything to fancy!

See you all in a week!!!! :):)

2 & 3 Month Essentials for Baby

26 Mar

During the second and third month so much happens! its such an exciting and overwhelming time as your baby’s little personality is emerging. They are starting to recognize you, smile, interact and it becomes way more apparent of what they want and don’t want. They also start to play and grasp different toys – there are so many milestones during this phase!

Logan grew so much during these months! he grew over 5 inches and at 3 months weighed over 15lbs!!

He started to turn into quite the chunker by month 3 :)

During our second and third month we still used the stability ball ALOT – as he still struggled with gas and being colic. And the one thing he really just loved was to be bounced <awake or to sleep> .  You learn very quickly in the world of motherhood that you do whatever you need to! Happy Baby = Happy EVERYONE! lol.

This playmat has been awesome… in the second month it was the first thing that really entertained Logan without me having to be constantly engaged as well. Every morning I would put him down on the mat and that’s when I would run around like a chicken with its head cut off grabbing my coffee and breaky and sometimes even got dressed :)

This mat is great because it has a piano at his feet that he constantly kicks, it plays music (which also has the option of shutting off lol) and has a big hanging mirror in the middle which Logan LOVES. It also has little toys, but I would change up the toys and once he started grabbing things I would hook the linky toys on and he loved that.

IMG_1063(notice big brother is always watching – hes too cute)

You can get it here: http://www.toysrus.com/buy/gyms-playmats/kick-n-play-piano-gym-bmh49-30181276

Babies sure do love mirrors!! its one of the first things they notice – and they never get sick of looking at themselves :)

we have this whale mirror I found at winnners for $5… but here’s a similiar one at BUYBUY BABY by Skip Hop

Here’s a similar one at BUYBUY BABY by Skip Hop:  http://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/skip-hop-reg-alphabet-zoo-baby-safe-activity-mirror/1040569703

If you have a breastfeeding pillow – that also comes in handing for tummy time! helps them enjoy it a little more :) (I have the boppy pillow)

We got this vibrating bouncy chair when he was 3 months! I don’t know why the hell we didn’t have this sooner, it’s awesome! It’s cheap, has vibration, he bounces easily, toys and music! its a winner in my books! (It also has a toy bar that attaches that isn’t in the picture)

Here is the link for the one we have by BRIGHT START: http://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/bright-starts-trade-playful-pals-trade-bouncer/1041385937?Keyword=bouncer

However, if we had of realized before hand I would have registered for this one by Baby BJORN! I have read raving reviews about it

These link toys are AWESOME! for such a cheap little thing, man they are a lifesaver. He loves them, I hang them off his carseat, playmat you name it!

or we have these ones from Target by BRIGHT STARTS

This OBALL – was the first toy that Logan learned how to grasp. And you can hook it on to things with the linky toys above!

The swaddle was a must for us however, he grew out of the summer infant velcro swaddles quickly. So we ended up using the Halo sleep sacks with the swaddle wings on them. We used a fleece one at night and cotton one during the day.

IMG_1069Here is where you can find them: http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=4277362

  • White noise is still really important – we use a white noise app on an ipod dock in his nursery
  • We transitioned to the crib around 11 weeks, and it went well.. Logan wasn’t a great sleeper at this stage anyways – so it didn’t affect him much

Unfortunately he wasn’t a huge fan of the swing, and the carseat was STILL a struggle for us. However one thing that started to help at around 3 months was that he started to take a soother again – he really seemed to love these ones by AVENT. They were a good transition from the soothie ones!

I bought this Solly wrap around 3 months and really wish I had it from the beginning… It makes wearing him around the house alot more comfortable. It takes some time to learn how to master the wrap, but within a couple tries it becomes pretty easy. I didn’t use it past 4 months, because I just find hes too big in it and doesn’t like to be carried facing me anymore (He’s too curious about everything around him hehe)

You can order them here: http://shop.sollybaby.com/collections/all

And the baby susher was awesome for us during these months! We also had the ipad/iphone app we used all the time! <you can see it in the picture above>

Logan started to smile – and that was by far the BEST milestone :)

Hope this helps some future mommy’s out there :)

4 & 5 month baby essentials

7 Mar

The 4th & 5th month brought big changes for Logan! The gas & colic he struggled with in the months prior disappeared! He became a happier and more easy-going baby. He started laughing and doing things more independently. His little personality really came to life during this stage and it was honestly the most amazing thing to watch. He melts our hearts more and more each day. Towards the 5 month mark we ended up sleep training which was by far the best decision EVER!!!!! I was so resistant at first and then after I saw such a big change in him it was worth those 2 hard days of starting it!!

4 + 5 month baby essentials

**4 months** Logan weighed over 17lbs (was in 6-9 month clothing, size 3 diaper). He started babbling alot more and wanting to have conversations with us. He was getting better at grabbing things (especially mommy & daddys faces :)) and he was really starting to notice the world around him. He started to get alot better during our outings because he just wanted to look around and watch everything. He was and still is a curious little boy.

**5 months** he weighed almost 21lbs (was in 6-12 month clothing, size 3 diaper) he mastered jumping, grabbing with two hands rolling side to side. He started sleeping through the night (generally 6pm – 7am, with one nursing session in between there). We were also able to start putting him down awake, and he would just babble until he fell asleep. Napping also got alot better! He would have 3-4 naps a day (usually only awake for 2 hours at a time) and his naps would last anywhere between 45 mins and 2 hours. We also transitioned him from swaddle to sleep sack at this point (and also used the Merlin suit for 2 weeks in between that – see below). We also tried solids for a couple days (rice cereal) however, he became quite constipated, so the doctor said to wait closer to 6 months and skip the cereals.

Jolly Jumper – Logan is OBSESSED! He is seriously obsessed, I think maybe since he has spent most his life so far bouncing on a stability ball he just loves bounce! It’s great entertainment and exercise for our little man… He’s the happiest when he’s in it and we play nursery rhymes by Hooplakidz on our laptop and sing along :) haha

Exersaucer: this is also great entertainment for him… Especially closer to 5 months, when he could grab and gnaw on the toys lol.. Which is always his main objective!

We have this one by EVENFLO… It’s got lots of lights & music.. And he likes to grab the Tucan & dragon fly the best…

The bumbo chair – lots of people told me not to get this… However, we are really glad we have it! But I would suggest buying it second-hand because you can get them so much cheaper and they are easy to wash :) We got ours off VARAGE for only $15. This chair is great for when we are having dinner or just need to plop him somewhere real quick (like bathroom breaks for mommy)… He doesn’t like to be in it long, but it definitely helps.

Around 4.5 months, Logan discovered his feet and would love to just lay on the playmat and grab them. This is also a great skill for them when learning to roll. As he would grab his feet he would topple over from side to side. They also love to just be in their diaper or onesie so they can move easier.

Transitioned from Swaddle to Sleep Sack… Now we did this transition the same time we sleep trained Logan (the weeek he turned 5 months) because there was no way we were able to put him down without swaddling, it was a nightmare. But really it only took about two days until he got the hang of things and was able to self soothe! Definitely the best decision we ever made!!!! He is a COMPLETELY different baby!

I love the Aden & Anais sleep sacks! I managed to score some from Winners however, you can pay full price on numerous websites including diapers.com

During desperate times before we sleep trained I had ordered “Merlin’s Magic Sleep Suit” – but decided to sleep train before we got it. Even though he was sleeping and napping so much better by the time we got it I still thought I would give it a try to see if it would help him last longer for naps because he was only napping for 30-45 mins at a time. I also thought his arms and hands were so cold in the sleep sack at night so I hoped that this would keep him warmer (which it did) he absolutely loved it! And although he looks like a giant marshmallow man, it really did help. His naps started to last a lot longer and he started to go straight to sleep in it. We only ended up using it for a couple of weeks and then when we transitioned back to the sleep sack he was still sleeping long stretches and would go down without a fuss!!

<I know it looks like he can’t reach his hands to his mouth, but he can! it’s just a little more work for him hehe>

and doesn’t he look adorable? :)

Logan at 5 months also started loving blankies, which is really helpful when he sleeps in the car seat!

5 month’s brought Logan two bottom teeth! He was teething on and off for about a month, but the week they came through he was really fussy, his cheeks were bright red and he just wanted to chomp on anything he could get his hands on.

Check out these bad boys ;)

I honestly thought I would have stopped breastfeeding as soon as his teeth came in however, having them only on the bottom wasn’t as bad as I had thought. Luckily his tongue covers them while I am nursing (although don’t get me wrong I still feel those razor blades, but luckily they have only grazed me so far lol). I also give him 2-3 bottles a day now, so don’t nurse him as often.

Here are a couple of things that seemed to help while he was in the midst of teething:

Sophie is also a lifesaver – Now I know some people shake their head at this expensive little giraffe, but the company who came up with this sure was genius. Not only do babies love her, but she has so many great features for such a little toy.

PRODUCT DETAILS: “The contrasting spots are easy for baby to see, even from birth. After a while, Sophie becomes a familiar, comforting sight, and a regular pal. Sophie has a playful squeaker which is pleasant to your baby’s ears. Your baby can safely chew and taste Sophie from every angle. The giraffe’s soft, pliable legs, ears, and horns are easy on the mouth and perfect for soothing your baby’s sore gums. Sophie is long, lanky and stretchy, so your baby can easily grip her neck and legs from any angle, improving their dexterity and building motor skills without harm. Plus, her skin is soft, smooth, and comforting for your baby.  Sophie is made with Hevea tree sap, a 100 percent natural rubber, which gives the giraffe her special smell. This teether is made from all-natural rubber and food paint, so it’s completely baby safe.”

He mostly loves to chew on her face though! (Poor Soph lol)

Breastmilk Popsicles :)  I just pumped and put the milk into an ice-cube tray and covered it with tin foil, and whenever he was really fussy and grabbing his teeth during the day I would put a milk cube in a mesh feeder and he would chomp down on it!

Other things that helped were:

  • Cold Cloth – he loved to just suck on it over my finger… and really liked it when I would put pressure on his gums
  • his pacifier was also a huge help, I think the sucking motion would relieve the pain for him
  • Tylenol at bed time

We moved from bathing Logan in the sink with the blooming bath around 3 months, into the  SUMMER INFANT right Height bath tub. This bath is great because it has a step stool underneath so it’s the perfect height for bathing the baby! and saves your back!!! (the stool can also be used when they are a toddler which is great)

Now the one thing I didn’t like about it was the mesh insert that clipped around the tub, because I felt like it kept him above the water so he was always cold. I ended up putting my blooming bath in it to keep him comfortable until he was big enough to support himself a little more.

IMG_0198Blooming bath link: https://www.bloomingbath.com/blooming-bath-baby-bath.html/

In this picture below, he was finally big enough for me to unclip the bottom so that it would just float, yet his body was heavy enough to keep him in the water more

Now just as I went to grab a link for you guys, I noticed that they have changed the bath tub :) must not have been just me that felt that way!! the seat they have in the bath now is WAYYY better, long that it is on an angle.

check it out: http://www.toysrus.com/buy/bath-tubs-more/summer-infant-right-height-bath-tub-08970-3680336

I also have this bath stool by summer infant for Adam & I to use when we bath him, and I LOVE it!

Walking with baby in the winter time is never easy – but it feels so good to get some fresh air and get of the house! Unfortunately I didn’t realize to later in the winter that I could use the rain cover that came with our UPPA BABY stroller to block the wind out. It was a lifesaver and truly brilliant! It would block the wind, keep him toasty warm and he could still see me and everything around him (which obviously makes him happy).

Logan loved to just talk and make tooting noises with his mouth – he thought it was so funny :) we did too hehe

IMG_1409Zip up Fleece Jacket: Carters

Logan really started to notice our dog more during this phase, which was adorable. He also started to grab his hair, which was not so fun for our dog Griffin :) But luckily he is really good about it and just let’s him do whatever. IMG_0734

Here are some pictures I captured during the 4 & 5 month phase :) I can’t help it – he’s just so dam cute!!!!

1 Month Essentials for Baby & Mommy

3 Nov

Can’t believe our little Logie Bear is already over 1 month old!!

It’s amazing the changes we are already starting to see in him. He now tries to focus, and his neck is so strong. He loves to stare at the lights and our faces and is even trying to crack a smile every now and then. watching him grow and change is amazing!

logan - 1 month

logan - 1month pic2

I have been asked by some soon to be mommy’s about the things we have used and needed – and advice of what I think they should be stocking up on! I have been working on a registry checklist that I will be posting soon. But I really want to share the essentials we needed the first month. For not only baby, but mama as well. Because recovering from delivery can not be pretty sometimes and there are quite a few things that other people had recommended to me that really helped get me through my first month post-baby!! I will also start working on a list for packing your hospital bag!

1 Month Baby Essentials

  • Diapers/ Wipes/ Sleepers/  – all the obvious things
  • Diaper rash cream – my GF gave me this organic one and we just love it – it works wonders!!!! http://yemaya.ca/

Diaper Ointment

  • Bassinet (Swivel Sleeper by Halo) http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=24126636 ~ this is great because we have a really high bed, and it was so hard to find something that would be high enough. Plus I love the mesh sides so air can get through easily. It also has a little night light, music and vibration to help baby sleep. But buyer beware – it goes through batteries QUICK!

  • Diaper Pale – we got the Genie Elite (and refills) http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=13265017
  • Vibrating chair – this is great for being so light and portable. So when mommy is home by herself she can take it from room to room! We got ours from my sister in law as a hand me down…it’s by fisher price

  • Baby Monitor (Summer Infant – Wifi Monitor) This monitor is amazing and super high tech. It comes with a mobile video monitor plus there is an app for your phone or ipad, so you can check in on baby no matter where you are. From both your phone or the monitor you can move the camera, check the temperature in the room and talk to the baby through the monitor. http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=24777286
  • GLIDER!!!! I spend HOURS in this…… and love it! it’s soooo comfy! we got ours at babyshack in whitby – its called Luana

seriously how snuggly in this little cutie??

  • Aden & Anais swaddle blankets (we actually don’t use these to swaddle at night, because we have a little Houdini… but they are awesome for just every day use of over stroller, wrapping him when feeding etc…you seriously can’t have enough of these!) http://www.adenandanais.ca/ all their products are awesome!! we have the wash cloths, burp cloths, crib sheet, change table cover and I just ordered the dream blanket!! all are so soft and breathable fabric…

  • Blooming Bath for newborns http://babyramacanada.com/xcart/Blooming-Bath-Baby-Bath.html?wishlistid=14517 (also on Amazon or you can get a good deal on them when they are on Zulily) these make it so easy to bath him, and is so soft … he loves bath time! (someone told me to make the water warmer then what they tell you – and it’s true! he screamed for his first bath and now that I make it warmer (usually 103 or 104) he LOVES it!!!

1 month Mommy Essentials

here is a pic of me in the hospital in them…

  • A good water bottle with a straw! I keep this in the nursery – you need to drink so much water when breastfeeding, so make sure to keep it in all your main spots!
  • Breast pads & Nipple cream – you can never have enough!! http://www.amazon.ca/Lansinoh-HPA-Lanolin-40g/dp/B00BLA3EPQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1415030362&sr=1-1&keywords=lansinoh
  • Lansinoh Thera Pearl 3 in 1 – These little things are amazing for your nipples the first couple weeks! I would pop them in the freezer and use them when my nipples were sore!!! I think I bought mine at shoppers…  http://www.amazon.ca/Lansinoh-Thera-Pearl-3-in-1/dp/B00BLA3J38/ref=sr_1_5?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1415030218&sr=1-5&keywords=lansinoh
  • Breastfeeding pillow I had both the breastfriend and the boppy and I only ever used the boppy… the breastfriend just wasn’t comfortable for me. But everyone is different… (this is really crucial those first couple weeks, I am only now at a point where I can breastfeed literally sitting or standing … each day gets easier)
  • Now this is definitely TMI for some I am sure – but it’s a must on the list. go out and get yourself some stool softeners (the hospital will send you home with some, but don’t stop taking them for another 2 weeks) TUCKS pads, Preparation H cream – these pesty buggers didn’t get me till 2 weeks after I gave birth, so I was so grateful to have this stuff on hand!
  • The hospital will send you home with a squirt bottle for after you go the bathroom – this thing was yet again my best friend, I even took it with me if I was leaving the house. Just helps sooth and clean everything down there for the first little bit. So whatever you do, don’t forget to bring it home with you!!
  • Pads, and lots of them at all different sizes. The big heavy ones are great for the first week, not only for your little friend, but also just for comfort. Oh and don’t forget to invest in some big old granny panties! Because those big pads are just not going to be comfortable in your normal underwear… So go pick up some comfy hanes for $10
  • Padsicles – have you heard of these? if not, they are a MUST!!!! a couple weeks before you are due, get some pads, throw some Witch Hazel on them and then pop them in the freezer… when you get home from the hospital those bad boys will be your best friend!! Oh, and while your at the hospital make sure to ask the nurse for some if she doesn’t offer, they keep them in the freezer there, I would send Adam most the time to grab them for me. So make sure your husband is well aware of the kitchenette at the hospital! lol… here is a link on how to make them: http://intheknowmom.net/diy-padsicles-musthave-postpartum-item/

  • Breastfeeding clothes and bras – I had only one bra, and a shirt…. Target has some awesome tank tops and bra’s. I went out the first week and stocked up. I really like the  Gilligan & OMalley Nursing Bras and the tanks! You will literally be living in these things, so you need enough so that your not constantly doing the laundry (because there will be many nights you wake up drenched – not fun)

I like these ones for night time…

And these ones for during the day… gilligan-omalley-nursign-bra

and these clip down nursing tanks are seriously the best…. I live in these!

Here is a link – but remember it is US because target doesn’t have a good canadian site yet… http://www.target.com/c/camis-tanks-intimates-women-s-clothing/gilligan-o-malley/-/N-5xtccZ5xv9c

– these are also great and super cheap!! I wear these alot when I leave the house!! and they are long enough to wear with tights :) http://www.babybeminematernity.com/Before-After-Maternity-Nursing-T-Shirt-p/t101.htm

  • Mother Tucker Leggings – these are amazing and I live in them!! they are compression, and literally go up to your boobs. They make you feel so much better about your body in the first month when everything is still jiggly. http://www.babyjoy.ca/product-p/bb530013blk.htm (also baby joy has free shipping :)

0010030000032I first heard about these leggings and the belly bandit, from watching this girls youtube videos! When you are in the third trimester and just stuck to the couch her videos are a great way to kill time… lol

  • Kuerig :) I bought this the week before I had Logan, and it has been awesome because I can just make one cup of tea or coffee at a time! and saves me from wasting a whole pot! Also makes it easier for when you have visitors… and great way to still have your starbucks when you are stuck at home
  • Netflix – As a nursing mom you spend alot of time just sitting while your baby feeds… and if you have a kid like me you spend hours in you glider. I have my ipad set up beside the glider and I just watch shows and movies all day and all night… lol, and of course surf pinterest every now and then. Ps. the show “The Killing” on netflix is awesome!! all 4 seasons got me through my first month!! haha….
  • Dry Shampoo – for obvious reasons :) mommy doesn’t get to shower as often as she used to!
  • A good phone App to track everything! I use “Baby Nursing” and literally track and time everything… because you will be amazed at how much you need to know about how often your baby feeds, poops and sleeps! and not to mention tracking the colour of poop lol… and in your first month, you will be so tired you will forget when you did 5 minutes ago! so this app is super helpful.
  • Baby Susher App – this is worth the $5 over and over again!!! it’s amazing… and really helps Logan sleep (ANYWHERE) I truly recommend it for some white noise < I just ordered the actual shusher off amazon :) thats how much we love this thing!! > http://www.amazon.ca/Sleep-Miracle-Baby-Shusher-Control/dp/B00FGY8KCU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415030548&sr=8-1&keywords=baby+shusher

Our first month was really tough with Logan because he would get the worst gas pains – it is so heartbreaking when your baby is upset and uncomfortable and there is literally nothing you can do to help them. We tried everything, and the only thing that would calm him would be to bounce on an exercise ball (which is fine for the first 15 minutes, but let me tell ya – mommy and daddy are going to have to see a chiropractor soon lol) It wasn’t until lots and lots of late night research that I learned fennel really helps babies digestive system. So one night while I was on my hour break from baby duty and Daddy was looking after Logan I was scoping out the health food isle at the Loblaws superstore and came across this nursing tea by Lunar Eclipse. I thought it was worth a shot since it had all natural ingredients, one being fennel – and it said right on the front it was to help with colic. Well let me tell ya, I went home – had a cup … and he sleep for 8 HOURS THAT NIGHT!!!!! I was in disbelief…. and when he woke up and fed, still no pain, no fuss – I felt like I was in a dream… he went back to sleep for another 3 hours… so that day I had another cup in the afternoon and same thing, he was having no pains. (only the normal fuss, diaper changes, tired etc…) The next night he slept for another 6 hours… Now I am not saying this is a cure all, but for all you parents out there that are living on no sleep with a crying baby that just can’t be settled – this is worth a shot! I have talked to my doctor about it, and he was happy with the all natural ingredients… and fingers crossed it keeps working for us!!! but I thought I had to share this with people because I know how heartbreaking and frustrating it can be, when neither you and baby are sleeping and you are stuck in the house.

And for all you soon to be mommys out there! Make sure to watch some video’s of Dr Harvey (Baby whisperer lol… ) he’s the guy that wrote Happiest Baby on the Block … and let me tell ya! It took me a couple weeks to find out about these little tricks – and boy they could have helped those first couple weeks!! here’s a link to the youtube video….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK4O9N3DjJM

Also, this chick is on to something as well (she was on Oprah after all :)!! I am definitely starting to recognize his cries and getting alot quicker at finding out what is troubling him…http://www.pinterest.com/pin/190628996703050134/

That is our first month list in a nutshell :) and just remember this first month is all about survival… make sure to accept help! I can”t even begin to explain how amazing our parents and family have been through this! from bringing meals, to sleeping over and lending extra hands or even just coming for an hour and letting me shower. And make sure to get of the house as much as you can, even for a 15 minute walk around the neighbourhood – fresh air makes you feel so much better!
