2 & 3 Month Essentials for Baby

26 Mar

During the second and third month so much happens! its such an exciting and overwhelming time as your baby’s little personality is emerging. They are starting to recognize you, smile, interact and it becomes way more apparent of what they want and don’t want. They also start to play and grasp different toys – there are so many milestones during this phase!

Logan grew so much during these months! he grew over 5 inches and at 3 months weighed over 15lbs!!

Β He started to turn into quite the chunker by month 3 πŸ™‚

During our second and third month we still used the stability ball ALOT – as he still struggled with gas and being colic. And the one thing he really just loved was to be bounced <awake or to sleep> .Β  You learn very quickly in the world of motherhood that you do whatever you need to! Happy Baby = Happy EVERYONE! lol.

This playmat has been awesome… in the second month it was the first thing that really entertained Logan without me having to be constantly engaged as well. Every morning I would put him down on the mat and that’s when I would run around like a chicken with its head cut off grabbing my coffee and breaky and sometimes even got dressed πŸ™‚

This mat is great because it has a piano at his feet that he constantly kicks, it plays music (which also has the option of shutting off lol) and has a big hanging mirror in the middle which Logan LOVES. It also has little toys, but I would change up the toys and once he started grabbing things I would hook the linky toys on and he loved that.

IMG_1063(notice big brother is always watching – hes too cute)

You can get it here:

Babies sure do love mirrors!! its one of the first things they notice – and they never get sick of looking at themselves πŸ™‚

we have this whale mirror I found at winnners for $5… but here’s a similiar one at BUYBUY BABY by Skip Hop

Here’s a similar one at BUYBUY BABY by Skip Hop:Β

If you have a breastfeeding pillow – that also comes in handing for tummy time! helps them enjoy it a little more πŸ™‚ (I have the boppy pillow)

We got this vibrating bouncy chair when he was 3 months! I don’t know why the hell we didn’t have this sooner, it’s awesome! It’s cheap, has vibration, he bounces easily, toys and music! its a winner in my books! (It also has a toy bar that attaches that isn’t in the picture)

Here is the link for the one we have by BRIGHT START:

However, if we had of realized before hand I would have registered for this one by Baby BJORN! I have read raving reviews about it

These link toys are AWESOME! for such a cheap little thing, man they are a lifesaver. He loves them, I hang them off his carseat, playmat you name it!

or we have these ones from Target by BRIGHT STARTS

This OBALL – was the first toy that Logan learned how to grasp. And you can hook it on to things with the linky toys above!

The swaddle was a must for us however, he grew out of the summer infant velcro swaddles quickly. So we ended up using the Halo sleep sacks with the swaddle wings on them. We used a fleece one at night and cotton one during the day.

IMG_1069Here is where you can find them:

  • White noise is still really important – we use a white noise app on an ipod dock in his nursery
  • We transitioned to the crib around 11 weeks, and it went well.. Logan wasn’t a great sleeper at this stage anyways – so it didn’t affect him much

Unfortunately he wasn’t a huge fan of the swing, and the carseat was STILL a struggle for us. However one thing that started to help at around 3 months was that he started to take a soother again – he really seemed to love these ones by AVENT. They were a good transition from the soothie ones!

I bought this Solly wrap around 3 months and really wish I had it from the beginning… It makes wearing him around the house alot more comfortable. It takes some time to learn how to master the wrap, but within a couple tries it becomes pretty easy. I didn’t use it past 4 months, because I just find hes too big in it and doesn’t like to be carried facing me anymore (He’s too curious about everything around him hehe)

You can order them here:

And the baby susher was awesome for us during these months! We also had the ipad/iphone app we used all the time! <you can see it in the picture above>

Logan started to smile – and that was by far the BEST milestone πŸ™‚

Hope this helps some future mommy’s out there πŸ™‚

4 & 5 month baby essentials

7 Mar

The 4th & 5th month brought big changes for Logan! The gas & colic he struggled with in the months prior disappeared! He became a happier and more easy-going baby. He started laughing and doing things more independently. His little personality really came to life during this stage and it was honestly the most amazing thing to watch. He melts our hearts more and more each day. Towards the 5 month mark we ended up sleep training which was by far the best decision EVER!!!!! I was so resistant at first and then after I saw such a big change in him it was worth those 2 hard days of starting it!!

4 + 5 month baby essentials

**4 months** Logan weighed over 17lbs (was in 6-9 month clothing, size 3 diaper). He started babbling alot more and wanting to have conversations with us. He was getting better at grabbing things (especially mommy & daddys faces :)) and he was really starting to notice the world around him. He started to get alot better during our outings because he just wanted to look around and watch everything. He was and still is a curious little boy.

**5 months** he weighed almost 21lbs (was in 6-12 month clothing, size 3 diaper) he mastered jumping, grabbing with two hands rolling side to side. He started sleeping through the night (generally 6pm – 7am, with one nursing session in between there). We were also able to start putting him down awake, and he would just babble until he fell asleep. Napping also got alot better! He would have 3-4 naps a day (usually only awake for 2 hours at a time) and his naps would last anywhere between 45 mins and 2 hours. We also transitioned him from swaddle to sleep sack at this point (and also used the Merlin suit for 2 weeks in between that – see below). We also tried solids for a couple days (rice cereal) however, he became quite constipated, so the doctor said to wait closer to 6 months and skip the cereals.

Jolly Jumper – Logan is OBSESSED! He is seriously obsessed, I think maybe since he has spent most his life so far bouncing on a stability ball he just loves bounce! It’s great entertainment and exercise for our little man… He’s the happiest when he’s in it and we play nursery rhymes by Hooplakidz on our laptop and sing along πŸ™‚ haha

Exersaucer: this is also great entertainment for him… Especially closer to 5 months, when he could grab and gnaw on the toys lol.. Which is always his main objective!

We have this one by EVENFLO… It’s got lots of lights & music.. And he likes to grab the Tucan & dragon fly the best…

The bumbo chair – lots of people told me not to get this… However, we are really glad we have it! But I would suggest buying it second-hand because you can get them so much cheaper and they are easy to wash πŸ™‚ We got ours off VARAGE for only $15. This chair is great for when we are having dinner or just need to plop him somewhere real quick (like bathroom breaks for mommy)… He doesn’t like to be in it long, but it definitely helps.

Around 4.5 months, Logan discovered his feet and would love to just lay on the playmat and grab them. This is also a great skill for them when learning to roll. As he would grab his feet he would topple over from side to side. They also love to just be in their diaper or onesie so they can move easier.

Transitioned from Swaddle to Sleep Sack… Now we did this transition the same time we sleep trained Logan (the weeek he turned 5 months) because there was no way we were able to put him down without swaddling, it was a nightmare. But really it only took about two days until he got the hang of things and was able to self soothe! Definitely the best decision we ever made!!!! He is a COMPLETELY different baby!

I love the Aden & Anais sleep sacks! I managed to score some from Winners however, you can pay full price on numerous websites including

During desperate times before we sleep trained I had ordered “Merlin’s Magic Sleep Suit” – but decided to sleep train before we got it. Even though he was sleeping and napping so much better by the time we got it I still thought I would give it a try to see if it would help him last longer for naps because he was only napping for 30-45 mins at a time. I also thought his arms and hands were so cold in the sleep sack at night so I hoped that this would keep him warmer (which it did) he absolutely loved it! And although he looks like a giant marshmallow man, it really did help. His naps started to last a lot longer and he started to go straight to sleep in it. We only ended up using it for a couple of weeks and then when we transitioned back to the sleep sack he was still sleeping long stretches and would go down without a fuss!!

<I know it looks like he can’t reach his hands to his mouth, but he can! it’s just a little more work for him hehe>

and doesn’t he look adorable? πŸ™‚

Logan at 5 months also started loving blankies, which is really helpful when he sleeps in the car seat!

5 month’s brought Logan two bottom teeth! He was teething on and off for about a month, but the week they came through he was really fussy, his cheeks were bright red and he just wanted to chomp on anything he could get his hands on.

Check out these bad boys πŸ˜‰

I honestly thought I would have stopped breastfeeding as soon as his teeth came in however, having them only on the bottom wasn’t as bad as I had thought. Luckily his tongue covers them while I am nursing (although don’t get me wrong I still feel those razor blades, but luckily they have only grazed me so far lol). I also give him 2-3 bottles a day now, so don’t nurse him as often.

Here are a couple of things that seemed to help while he was in the midst of teething:

Sophie is also a lifesaver – Now I know some people shake their head at this expensive little giraffe, but the company who came up with this sure was genius. Not only do babies love her, but she has so many great features for such a little toy.

PRODUCT DETAILS: “The contrasting spots are easy for baby to see, even from birth. After a while, Sophie becomes a familiar, comforting sight, and a regular pal. Sophie has a playful squeaker which is pleasant to your baby’s ears. Your baby can safely chew and taste Sophie from every angle. The giraffe’s soft, pliable legs, ears, and horns are easy on the mouth and perfect for soothing your baby’s sore gums. Sophie is long, lanky and stretchy, so your baby can easily grip her neck and legs from any angle, improving their dexterity and building motor skills without harm. Plus, her skin is soft, smooth, and comforting for your baby.Β  Sophie is made with Hevea tree sap, a 100 percent natural rubber, which gives the giraffe her special smell. This teether is made from all-natural rubber and food paint, so it’s completely baby safe.”

He mostly loves to chew on her face though! (Poor Soph lol)

Breastmilk Popsicles πŸ™‚Β  I just pumped and put the milk into an ice-cube tray and covered it with tin foil, and whenever he was really fussy and grabbing his teeth during the day I would put a milk cube in a mesh feeder and he would chomp down on it!

Other things that helped were:

  • Cold Cloth – he loved to just suck on it over my finger… and really liked it when I would put pressure on his gums
  • his pacifier was also a huge help, I think the sucking motion would relieve the pain for him
  • Tylenol at bed time

We moved from bathing Logan in the sink with the blooming bath around 3 months, into theΒ  SUMMER INFANT right Height bath tub. This bath is great because it has a step stool underneath so it’s the perfect height for bathing the baby! and saves your back!!! (the stool can also be used when they are a toddler which is great)

Now the one thing I didn’t like about it was the mesh insert that clipped around the tub, because I felt like it kept him above the water so he was always cold. I ended up putting my blooming bath in it to keep him comfortable until he was big enough to support himself a little more.

IMG_0198Blooming bath link:

In this picture below, he was finally big enough for me to unclip the bottom so that it would just float, yet his body was heavy enough to keep him in the water more

Now just as I went to grab a link for you guys, I noticed that they have changed the bath tub πŸ™‚ must not have been just me that felt that way!! the seat they have in the bath now is WAYYY better, long that it is on an angle.

check it out:

I also have this bath stool by summer infant for Adam & I to use when we bath him, and I LOVE it!

Walking with baby in the winter time is never easy – but it feels so good to get some fresh air and get of the house! Unfortunately I didn’t realize to later in the winter that I could use the rain cover that came with our UPPA BABY stroller to block the wind out. It was a lifesaver and truly brilliant! It would block the wind, keep him toasty warm and he could still see me and everything around him (which obviously makes him happy).

Logan loved to just talk and make tooting noises with his mouth – he thought it was so funny πŸ™‚ we did too hehe

Logan really started to notice our dog more during this phase, which was adorable. He also started to grab his hair, which was not so fun for our dog Griffin πŸ™‚ But luckily he is really good about it and just let’s him do whatever. IMG_0734

Here are some pictures I captured during the 4 & 5 month phase πŸ™‚ I can’t help it – he’s just so dam cute!!!!

Logan’s Birth Story

26 Oct

We were blessed with a beautiful baby boy on September 29th, 2014

** Logan Anthony Berti ** 8lbs 14oz and 20 inches long!

I want to share my story because I think alot of the times people only tell pregnant woman the horror stories of labour and the negative side of things. I think each birth story is completely different. I know not everyone has a good experience, but I want people to know that some do. I was so blessed and can honestly say that my labour was extremely positive. Sure it was hard, and there were times I wasn’t sure if I could make it through it – But I did and as soon as I met my baby – I was just so overcome with love and amazement, everything else around me stood still. There are a few specific reasons though that made my labour so positive. #1 – would be I had an epidural, and it took my pain away instantly and let me relax during my labour. #2 would be, my husband – he was such an amazing support for me and just helped me through every minute. #3 would be my doctor and nurses – they were so great and made me feel so comfortable.

I gave birth to Logan at 39 weeks. My water broke at 3 am Sunday morning on September 28th. I was sleeping on the couch (where i had slept for most nights in the last stretch of my pregnancy. I had been very uncomfortable at the end and had to sleep sitting up). I woke up, and to be quite honest thought I had peed myself (which, for any of you that have been pregnant would know is not shocking to happen in the last month of pregnancy lol). As I walked to the bathroom I quickly realized my water had broke. After I cleaned myself up, I went upstairs to wake my husband Adam up. As I quietly woke him up and calmly told him my water broke and we would soon be meeting our baby, he jumped out of bed and was starting to get ready for the hospital. I told him to slow down and that just because my water broke didn’t mean we were heading to the hospital just yet. I called the hospital and they told me to come in around 8 am if contractions hadn’t started by then. So off we went to the hospital, but first we made a pit stop at my parents house to drop Griffy off. We got to the hospital and had an exam done, and contractions had started but were barely there.

It’s amazing how mother nature prepares you to have a baby. I could never understand why at the end of every woman’s pregnancy they actually WANTED to give birth. and after experiencing it all, I definitely see why. You just get so uncomfortable by the end and want to meet your little baby so bad that you actually wish upon labour! Atleast I did πŸ™‚

At the hospital they told me they could either induce me (since my water broke I had to have the baby within 24 hours), or I could go home for couple hours and see if labour happened on it’s own – which would make the contractions a little more manageable. So I opted for the second choice of course! We left he hospital and went out for breakfast with Adam’s mom and sister, then headed to his mom’s house since she lives so close to the hospital and I laboured there for awhile with contractions, but they were still manageable. I got on the exercise ball, and as I got up to go get ready to head back to the hospital, another gush of water came out. Now the contractions were ramping up, and I could barely get myself ready for the hospital. Once we arrived back at the hospital at 2 in the afternoon, I was still only 2cm dilated. So they had to induce me with Oxycontin…and boy they weren’t kidding when they said the contractions would come on strong and intense fast! I had 3 hard hours of contractions, one of top of each other sometimes with no break in between. My nurse was great and knew I wanted an epidural whenever possible. So at 8pm that night, I was finally 3 cm, and she called the anesthesiologist. He came within 5 minutes! it was a miracle, I was in so much pain… I barely felt him do the epidural and it was INSTANT relief. Adam watched the monitor that he had been looking at earlier as he had been counting me through each contraction and watching the monitor for when they were starting to go down. As he looked at the monitor and saw the contraction getting stronger and stronger he looked at me in amazement and asked if I could feel it? I told him I couldn’t feel a thing, and then slowly fell asleep. A couple hours later the nurse came in to check and see if I had dilated anymore… And to our surprise I was 10 cm, and she told me to get ready to start pushing! We were in total shock, and then a little bit of panic sunk in as I asked her if my doctor was here yet. She told me we would start to push abit and then she would get someone to call him. He arrived shortly after that, and then I pushed for an hour and a half. I was so surprised that even though I had an epidural I could feel everything. It was just alot of pressure, no pain. I could move my legs abit and was able to take control of pushing.Β  At 1:41 am, our little angel arrived… I can’t even begin to describe the feeling I had as I saw him – it is something completely indescribable. They let Adam cut the cord and then quickly whisked him over to a counter, as I just watched in amazement. They then laid him on my chest and I just stared at him as we both cried tears of joy and kept looking at eachother in disbelief that we made this special little boy. As he laid on my chest they examined him. When they told me he was a healthy boy my heart skipped a beat. All we wanted was for our baby to be okay.

We are so blessed and beyond grateful to have this little angel, and for our positive birth experience. Adam’s dad was definitely watching over us and making sure all was okay. There were many times where I prayed to him and all our guardian angels to help me through it and to make sure Logan would be okay.

Alot of people have been asking me about his little Logan outfit ❀ I ordered it off Etsy! Here is the link to the shop (I am going to frame it in a shadow box with his hospital bracelet and birth announcement)

I am so thankful for such an amazing husband and partner. I could not have made it through this experience without him. Watching him become a daddy has been the most incredible journey, and I have fallen in love with him all over again.

Our lives have been changed forever by this little chubster, and he has made our hearts grown double the size. Being parents is definitely not easy – but it is so worth it. It’s amazing to look at this little baby and think he grew inside my tummy. Being a mommy is the most incredible and rewarding experience and I would do it all over again in a heart beat. I am so grateful for this little boy xox

Our Next Chapter …

22 Sep

I know I haven’t blogged in a long time – to be honest this has been a really hard year for our family. But I feel like I am ready now to share our next chapter with the world again πŸ™‚ so here is to a fresh start and documenting our incredible blessing that we are looking forward to. We are expecting our first child and feel so incredibly blessed to become parents, and just cannot wait to meet our baby for the first time.

We first found out we were pregnant in January of this year. My husband was working away, and the night he was coming home I decided to take a test. After I got 2 positives, my dog Griffin & I jumped in the car and headed to Shoppers to get a digital test – just so that I could really see the results – because it felt so surreal. After we came home we left a note at the door for Daddy … We hid behind the corner to hear his reaction (and record it on my iphone of course :)) when he read the card – it was such an emotional and incredible experience. We felt so blessed and excited to become parents. It was truly the perfect moment.

BabyB annoucement

We had our second ultrasound at 13 weeks – and it was another milestone in my memory. And incredible experience to see your baby forming and growing for the first time.

Baby B @13 weeks

we first announced our pregnancy at 16 weeks ….

And now we are going to jump ahead to our maternity photos – at 34 weeks. They turned out great – and I am so happy we documented this growing baby in my belly. Its such a miracle this whole experience and I just want to treasure every moment.

So here is the start & end of our first chapter – Less than 2 weeks now till we meet our sweet baby. This blog has always documented the positive things in our life and inspiration that I want to share, so get ready. Because this baby has sparked a whole new chapter of this blog xox

Post – Christmas

29 Dec

Wow – I cannot even believe Christmas is over already!! I feel like I blinked an the Christmas holidays were over. We are so blessed and had such a great few days with family and friends. Adam & I held our first Christmas dinner this year – and it went off without a hitch thanks to our family that pitched in!! We held 13 people in our little house and although it was cozy – it was so nice to have everyone here to celebrate the season!

here is a little glimpse into our Christmas holiday ……

Can’t wait for Next year!!! πŸ™‚

O Christmas Tree….

8 Dec
I have a confession…. I am a TERRIBLE Christmas tree decorator.
It’s awful, I am so embarrassed to say it, but it’s true. However, this year I have vowed to become better! I took a trip to places that had gorgeously decorated trees: The Bay, Sheridan Nursery, Van Belle’s etc…. After looking at all them I realized that you really need to fill the tree. Fill the holes with flowers, sparkly branches and leaves – and use lots of lights!!!
As you saw in my last post Adam & I went with our family to chop down a real tree this year! Although the tree seemed perfect at the farm – once we got it home it was a LITTLE big, and didn’t fit in the spot I had envisioned. So right off the bat, we were not off to a good start. But we made room behind the sectional for it, and now atleast it won’t be in the way when I have Christmas dinner at my house.
Here are some photos that I used for inspiration:

Now here is our tree πŸ™‚

I got ornaments this year from all over the place. The Bay, Crate & Barrel, Homesense, Canadian Tire, my mom, as wedding gifts and of course ones that I have gotten over the last few years we have lived together. I really want to have meaningful and important things on my tree. My main ornaments have to do with birdies πŸ™‚ of course (birds, bird houses, nests etc)… but I also have skates, a lucky pickle and then just beautiful white, gold & silver pieces.

It’s still not great…. But I feel like I am making progress!! πŸ™‚

Bring on December!!

4 Dec

The last few weeks have been so busy for us, but so eventful!! We have been spending a lot of time with friends and family – and I love it!! The Christmas holidays are fast approaching and I can’t wait!

So….. I went brunette! 10 years of being blonde, and just felt it was time for a change! Way less maintenance, and I actually really like it. You can’t really tell from this picture below, but it is Ombre at the bottom – with blonde peaking through.

Decorated the Porch for the Holidays!

Our family was supporting the Mustaches for Movember!! Too bad only Adam’s is real – I think Griffy suits it more than my hubby! πŸ™‚

We are starting a new family tradition – Cutting down our own tree πŸ™‚ We went to a tree farm with Adam’s whole family and all picked out Christmas trees! so much fun!

Now bringing home the Christmas tree was a different story! They sure do look ALOT smaller when they are on the farm then they do once you get them home!! haha, this turned out to be more like a Griswold’s tree!!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!

Wedding SAGA ~ Part One

5 Nov
I really want to share with you some of my favorite photos from our amazing wedding day. I am just so thrilled with all the photos we now have as beautiful memories. I thought our photographer really captured all the emotions and amazing moments that happened that day.
I am planning on doing a post each week highlighting a certain point in the wedding that was really important to me and that I thought came through in the pictures. I will classify all these pictures under the wedding “SAGA” :). For my first post I am going to give you my top 5 favorites!

1. This picture is by far one of my favorites. Our photographer snuck us out during our reception to capture a few pictures during the sunset overlooking the hillside that surrounds the winery. It was just magical and I love everything about it β™₯

2. I had planned for my dad to see me after I put my wedding dress on. I kept the dress a total secret from him until my actual wedding day and wouldn’t let him see me until I was all ready. It was by far one of the most emotional moments of the day for me. My dad means the world to me and I knew that moment he first saw me would be one of those moments you remember forever. I was waiting for him as he came out of the hotel, and to be honest even these pictures can’t describe how I felt. It was so moving to see my dad so emotional. I love him so much! β™₯

3. I love this picture of our bridal party/hockey team lol. We had a huge bridal party with all our favorite people in the world and of course because there are so many people it makes it really hard on the photographer to capture a photo where everyone is looking/looking good all at the same time! lol. But of course with all the beautiful people in our bridal party, combined with an amazing photographer – he managed to get this incredible shot. And I absolutely LOVE how he capture the Barn in the back where we had our reception.

4. This next picture was in a field across from the winery. Our photographer brought us over and at first I was a little skeptical since we were leaving the amazing scenery of the winery. But after seeing a picture like this, I totally get it – and I am SO glad we went over. I love everything about this picture and I think it captures a beautiful moment between my husband & I – with an amazing background.

5. I know it seems a little strange for this next photo to be in the “top 5” – But I love it because I feel like it captures a real moment and all the action surrounding it. It also gives an amazing shot of the decor – I was SO incredibly thrilled with the head table and flowers, I was in complete AWE!! It was breathtaking, so I love the fact you can see it all in this photo.

So there you have it… some my favorite moments, from my favorite day! It’s an incredible feeling marrying the love of your life in front of all of your favorite people. I will never forget it and treasure these photos forever!
<stayed tuned for part 2>
