Kitchen Makeover Inspiration

27 Jan

I had a request to give some Kitchen makeover ideas for a friend of mine who has a beautiful old farmhouse in the country. Of course I jumped at the chance to look at ways to update her space!

Currently her Kitchen looks like this:

Her main WANT is black granite counter tops with specks of gold of beige

Here is some inspiration photos

I would love to have the colours match the kitchen below…

Wall Colour = Benjamin Moore Linen & Cabinet Colour = Benjamin Moore Bennington Grey

Farmhouse Sink & Copper Faucet:

Now for her dining room I think she already has great bones. The table is an old work bench her dad had from when he first started working as a mechanic, and I love the old chandelier. I think with some really nice upholstered chairs it could take this room to the next level.

Here is a little inspiration for it….

and here is a little more rustic inspiration ….

I think the mix of Rustic Black, Creams & White are perfect for her country home!!

80’s Kitchen Dilemma

15 Jan

The dreaded 80’s Kitchen is always a pain, and at first it seems like there is no hope but to replace all the cabinets. However, that is not the case!!!

I have a friend stuck in a rut with her old 80’s Kitchen… She has redone most the house and it looks gorgeous, but she has not yet tackled the kitchen. They are selling soon so she only wants to update it using the least amount of money.

OPTION ONE: paint the entire cabinet the same colour including the wood handle & add new hardware $

So what did they do you ask?

First, prime the brown handle and then paint the entire cabinets a bright white. Remember to do 2 coats! For this exact look you will need to purchase long stainless steel handles from IKEA or Home Depot, where ever you find a better price. Careful, when installing, make sure you measure correctly so your handle is not too low.

OPTION TWO: Take off he wood piece handle & add trim $$

Now for those of you with these 80’s kitchen cabinets but you are planning on staying in your home & don’t want to just paint over the brown wooden handle. You could take a more drastic step by actually taking off the wood piece and adding trim to each cupboard door. You can find step by step instructions over at http://www.frugalfixer.com

Here is a Before & After of her cabinets….

OPTION THREE: Replace each front cabinet door $$$

Over at http://craftyland.blogspot.com they redid the cabinet and a majority of the kitchen and it looks BEAUTIFUL!!

Hope this helps 🙂 the 80’s have got to go!!

Updating a Kitchen on a Budget

14 Jan

There are so many inexpensive ways to update your kitchen!

  • Paint
  • Hardware
  • Counter top
  • Backsplash

CABINETS:

I have a friend that has melamine frameless cupboards & a counter tops she hates and is looking to update the space on a budget. I have suggested painting her cabinets white to freshen up the space because she has dark hardwood floors and dark leather furniture. And her kitchen/living space is open concept.

here is the type of cabinet she currently has: These are a little more difficult to just paint because she doesn’t have any trim or framing to work with.

Here are some pictures & ideas I came up with to help…….

In the pictures below they just painted & added new knobs….

Although I am not a fan of the turquoise colour for cabinets, I think even this picture shows just a little bit of paint can really freshen them up!

Here they updated the cabinets with trim & added stainless steal pulls, which i love!

Check out the before picture for the Kitchen below, it’s incredible! http://www.younghouselove.com/photo-gallery-2/our-first-house/

COUNTER TOPS:

I have even stumbled upon a budget friendly way to create your own butcher block counter tops at http://loraine-breakfastfordinner.blogspot.com And she did it all for $56, pretty amazing!

Her Counters went from this:

To this…

Another little upgrade is to add cabinet feet, to make it a little more professional looking – I wanna do this in my kitchen!

I love the before & After…

Check these Before & Afters out…

Wish I knew the link for the Reno below…. Just found it on pinterest

Here’s another great site that gives you step by step on painting kitchen cabinets.
