I’M BACK & Moving on :)

19 Nov

Well, not even really sure where to begin, as I feel like I have just been in a whirl wind for the past few months. About once a day I would say to myself that I really need to sit down and get back into the blog, but I just felt like I had so many things to share with you guys that I didn’t know where to start. However, today is the day….. I am going to start with a quick recap of our life lately. 🙂

Mid September we took a trip down to Florida to go visit our friends. The day before we leave, I take a quick peek on mls.ca just to see what houses are available (this is not out of the ordinary as I usually take a look every few days just to make sure I don’t miss out on something wonderful). Now you are probably thinking – were you planning on moving? Answer: Not really. haha. My husband and I had been talking about it for awhile and decided maybe in the spring we would get our house ready to sell and then start looking more seriously. Well, back to the day before we leave for Florida – I message Adam in a panic telling him I have found this incredible house that has EVERYTHING on our wishlist and is somewhat affordable lol. I tell him that I just have to see this house tonight because it is to good to be true!! Adam is working that night and can’t go with me, so I tell him i will go and just see if it’s worth him going to see before we leave for Florida.

I go to see the house….. it is everything and more! I love the kitchen, layout, ravine, pool, hot tub and totally private backyard. When Adam came home from work that night I told him he would have to go see it the next day before we leave for Florida! So fast forward to the next day. Adam works till 6pm, we meet our realtor at the house around 630pm and Adam takes a look around and of course just gives me THAT look and says “Katie, obviously this house is beautiful and I love it – but we are leaving for Florida in an hour, what do you expect me to do here?” At that moment I knew he was right, we couldn’t make such a hasty decision – literally life altering when you are talking that kind of money. (Adam is way more sensible when it comes to finances and big decisions). I told him I knew he was right but at the same time I didn’t want us to lose out on this house and regret it later on. So our amazing realtor who had obviously been through this type of situation before made us feel better by saying “listen guys, you don’t have to make a decision tonight, why don’t we get some more info on the house (age of windows, roof etc) and then as long as you can get to a fax machine we can do the offer from Florida.” That was perfect, I was happy because we didn’t necessarily back away from the house and Adam was happy because he didn’t have to bite the bullet right then and there and buy this house.

So we leave for Florida…we drove down which took about 2 days, then stayed at Adam’s parent’s condo for a night and then headed to see our friends living in Boca. I had just told our friends about this amazing home and how much we loved it when I got an email from our realtor explaining that they had got an offer and taken it right away…. My heart was broken… I couldn’t believe we didn’t even have the chance to put in a bid or anything. Adam was in shock and obviously felt horrible knowing how much I loved the house and I think reality set in a bit of how quickly good things go in this market. Our realtor explained they have a week of conditions and that anything could happen so he will stay on top of it and let us know if anything changes.

Fast forward to the end of our trip. The last night we were in Florida we met up with Adam’s cousin’s family and were having a wonderful time catching up. We got a call from our realtor late that night saying the other buyers are asking for an extension and if we can get to a fax machine within the next hour then we can send them a firm offer which could beat out the extension. Adam and I didn’t even need to think about it – the only problem was we were thinking where the hell can we find a fax machine at 10 at night??? Thank the heavens that his cousin’s wife just happened to be a realtor in her previous career and still had her fax machine! So that was it – we signed the documents and sent them off and within an hour or two our realtor called and said it was ours 🙂 We were so happy!!!

When we woke up the next day reality set in…. Now we have to drive home immediately and go and get our house ready to sell. Talk about stressful!!! Once we were home we spent the next 3 days just cleaning and purging. Then our house went on the market – and luckily we had someone come in firm on the 3rd day! It was such a relief… Neither Adam or I had ever been through anything like this before because our current house Adam had built, so we had never been through this whole process. And what a process it is!! Luckily with a great realtor, it really does take alot of the stress off.

So fast forward to today… I am currently still packing and getting ready for the move. We move FRIDAY!!!! and I cannot wait. We are so excited for this new chapter. I will be sad to leave our home because it is where we started our little family together with our dog Griffin, but I am excited for the new memories we are going to make in our new home.

I am going to share with you a couple of pictures of the house, but believe me – I will be blogging alot more 🙂 I have some much inspiration for this house and ideas, I can’t wait to share them with you!

<<I do apologize, these photos are all from my phone – because I can’t find the cord for my camera… story of my life lately haha)

Target Canada is here!!

21 Mar

Tonight I finally got the chance to check out the new target that has just hit Canada!! I loved the targets in the states, so I was really looking forward to finally having one in our home town. Now I did go with the expectation it would not be the same as the states version. I had heard mixed reviews, so I definitely went with an open mind. I think they are still in the beginning stages of the store, meaning more shipments and new merchandise will be coming – so I am excited to see the store progress over the next few months.

I thought they had great clothes, bathing suits, shoes, kid clothes, home decor, dog stuff and definitely great gift wrapping/stationary. My only real disappointment was with their holiday selection. I thought for sure they would have a huge Easter display or aisle,  but there was really nothing. I am hoping that is just because they opened to close to the holiday.

Here is a little glimpse into the store:

They had super cute bathing suits!! Royal blue was a prominent colour in the women’s section … which I am really loving right now!!

They also had a ton of neon & cute pastel skinnies, which you all probably know I love 🙂

They had tons of bright coloured scarves of all different patterns – mostly around the $16 range

Now on to the home decor….

I love these baskets below with the chalkboard tags

20130321-194026.jpg

I really like this lamp with the clear base! And I love that you can buy the base and shades seperately.

20130321-194040.jpg

Really love these stools, but thought they were a little overpriced @ $79 each

20130321-194119.jpg

They had really nice throw blankets ranging from $16 – $29

20130321-194130.jpg

They had 2 really nice floor lamps that I loved. This one below with the chunky base, and a white one. I thought they were reasonably priced at $79 each.

I was happy to see that all the stationary/ gift wrapping was similar to the states with a wide range of products. I absolutely LOVE all the bright colours they are using!!!

20130321-194356.jpg

I thought the prices for gift bags were great too! Some were as little as 50 cents!!

Now onto the shoes…. I was extremely happy with the selection of flats & sandals – but refrained from buying any yet as I just can’t justify it when there is still damn SNOW o the ground!!!

So what did I buy you ask??

I got some adorable baby clothes for an upcoming shower, snacks and food for my nephew and niece coming over this weekend and then a few treats for myself 🙂 I got two super cute maxi dresses for summer! Each $20
And I restrained myself from the shoes, but I will Definitely be going back… 🙂

Here are the dresses

Anyways, that is just my little review on the new Target Canada!! I was really happy with it, and super glad it is here! I realize it might not be the exact same as the states, but hey – it definitely beats walmart!!!!!!!!

Dreaming of the perfect home

26 Oct

Wanna take a peak into my dream of the perfect home? Nothing fancy, but planned right 😉 I figure since all I do is day-dream about my idea of the perfect house, then what better idea to write about? then the one that inspires me the most!

Okay let’s go…

Now let’s start with the exterior. I picture myself walking up to a cape cod style home that is built with a combination of grey siding, rustic stone and white trimmings and not to mention lots of windows! It would have a welcoming big porch, with lovely lit lanterns and a flowered landscaped path.

If we had a garage it would have these beautiful carriage white doors, and maybe a french door for a side entrance like below….

Or this side entrance to a mudroom…

and a back entrance along the lines of this…

or like this? just imagine all the natural light that would seep into the living area inside ♥

Care to step inside?

Love this staircase…

Always need a powder room on the main floor

And now to an open concept Kitchen & Family living space

**get ready because this picture below makes me scream** I love everything about this room…

The layout, colours, textures, BAH – just everything!

you can view more of this amazing house if you click here http://www.houzz.com/projects/67863/Lake-View-Residence

I love the idea of an eating nook/dining area. Surrounded by beautiful windows, slip-covered chairs and a chunky rustic table!

love the windows in this kitchens below

And I would really LOVE to have a pantry, to store all the kitchen accessories and extra food!

And not to forget a big beautiful hood range above the stone!

And I would definitely make the most of the space by making sure all the cupboards and drawers were completely useful and organized. Lots of pull outs and dividers. Love the picture below of how drawers under a sink are way more useful…

Please check this kitchen out below… too many things I love, but I really LOVE those legs on that island – what a fantastic idea!!

A good spacious mudroom/laundry is vital for a busy household I think. A room where all the action and mess happens. And all you need to do is close the door and you can breathe again 🙂 I think this room is key and its helps when it is pretty – maybe I would spend more time in there!

Shall we move to the bedrooms? Let’s start with the Master & ensuite…

Love this vanity..

we can’t forget an amazing shower with lots of jets and a drop ceiling shower head. Adam is dying for one of those!

Oh and we can’t forget the walk-in Closet!!!!

Guestroom..

Let’s step down into the basement…

And of course we can’t forget having a good bar…

and a wine station is a must~~!!!

Hope you enjoyed the tour of my dreamy house 🙂

Having Fun with Wallpaper

1 Jan

Wallpaper….. is back?

I think Wallpaper can be used, if used wisely. I think it is great for small spaces or as an accent wall. My favorite time it is used is when a neutral wallpaper almost blends in with the walls around it, yet adds character to the room.

LOOOOOOVE the birch tree wallpaper…. I have been searching for a small spot in my house to use it!! I just haven’t decided where yet…

You can get it from Anthropologie for $200 a roll, so I would suggest using it in a small space….

From lostindecoration.tumblr.com

So cute for a little girl’s room…

Wallpaper is a great source for an accent wall, I think it just important that it be neutral colour! Unless you are trying make a dramatic statement…

Natalie from Beach House in the City uses lots of wallpaper!! You guys should check out Beach House in the City and see the Before & After photos. Although she has more modern taste than myself, I think she does an incredible job transforming her home!! Once you are on her site click on “Our House”
