Playroom Inspiration

20 Sep

Since before I had Logan, I would dream of all the amazing things I would do for my kids. I would think about all the cool imaginative spaces I would create for them. Now that I have Logan, those dreams have gone into over drive! As a parent you just want to give your child the most incredible childhood that they will remember for the rest of their lives. I want to make sure that Logan has the best memories with his family and enjoys playing in our home.

We have a 5th bedroom in the basement that my husband apparently has big plans of knocking down the wall and extending his “MAN CAVE” to create a bar area – however, I have put those plans on hold with the argument that Logan might want his bedroom down there once he’s a teenager… πŸ˜‰ But either way, I think it will be the perfect playroom once Logan is a little older and we have more kids. But for now – we are keeping the “play space” on the main level since Logan isn’t big enough to be playing downstairs by himself. Luckily we have a second family room that we use as the child friendly play space πŸ™‚ I still have a few more things to do, but once that is done I will take some pictures and share with you πŸ™‚

We also have a little cubby under the stairs in our basement that Adam & I are currently turning into a playhouse for Logan’s first Birthday! We are having so much fun doing it and I can’t wait to share it with you once it’s complete. I got the idea off pinterest of course, and here are a couple ones we love…

I think it’s so important for a child’s development to have a space where they use their imagination and can pretend play all day long!Β  Now although I have a little boy – I really try and keep most things gender neutral so if we have more kids in the future it won’t matter! Pinterest is the best place to get creative ideas – and since I am totally addicted I have put together some inspiration for all you parents (or soon to be :))

I love that these spaces are transitional throughout your home, and even if it’s in a main area you can still tie in your own home decor.

Stay tuned for our UNDER THE STAIRS PLAYHOUSE reveal πŸ™‚

Man Cave Progress

24 Feb

Happy Sunday! I just wanted to give you guys a little update on our basement, it is really coming together! Finally almost everything is done except a few little touches. But I am going to share it with you anyways…. πŸ™‚

So I would just like to take you back first to where we started….

basement before

So since my last post of ideas for the basement, there has been a bit of a change. Although we went to IKEA and got some slipcovers to go over our old couch and chair, unfortunately they did not fit. So, that being said we kept the IKEA futon, and thought we would use that as a couch instead. Our basement is pretty small, so it actually worked out better. We went back to IKEA, and bought a new grey chair that is super comfy with the money from the returned covers!! We also have a coffee table that will be coming down here shortly….

Here is our new grey chair from IKEA… it’s called the KIVIK for $250 (The pillow is Ralph Lauren from Homsense, and the blanket is Hudson Bay)

We moved the bar fridge beside the futon (now Adam doesn’t even need to get up lol). We still need to get some photos for the picture frames – Going to try and find some great group shots of our friends (I’m sure that won’t be too hard).

We were finally able to hang Adam’s draft Jersey!! That was a pretty big moment in his life, so I think it is great we get to display it finally. Β We bought the white bench from IKEA and the pillows are from Homsense. The picture to the left is of team Canada, Adam’s parents gave that to him.

Here is our Chalk Board wall πŸ™‚ I think it turned out so awesome!!! You can kind of see in the pic we actually got a piece of cork board and also painted it with the chalk board paint, just so we don’t have TOO many holes in the walls. Adam also had this idea to take an old hockey stick and hang some of his old Jerseys.

Adam has played for a lot of teams over his career, so we had to keep it limited to 6 jerseys… lol.. a girl can only look at so many jerseys ya know? The picture at the end is actually something the Blackhawks gave him from his first NHL game – It’s the game sheet & the puck… pretty cool.

We just put up this bar area today. We got a super old piece of barn wood from a little shop downtown and got the supports from Homedepot. I am going to paint the supports but leave the wood, I think it looks so rustic and awesome.

Just need some bar stools and we are ready to party!

This little area is where we are keeping all the booze! Still needs an old rustic mirror to go on the wall, don’t ya think?

I got this rustic bowl from Homesense and I just love it!!

So there you have it, Adam’s little man cave. We are both so happy with it – and I think we found the perfect balance of manly and still flowing with the rest of the house! Now we just need to have a party πŸ™‚

Dreaming of the perfect home

26 Oct

Wanna take a peak into my dream of the perfect home? Nothing fancy, but planned right πŸ˜‰ I figure since all I do is day-dream about my idea of the perfect house, then what better idea to write about? then the one that inspires me the most!

Okay let’s go…

Now let’s start with the exterior. I picture myself walking up to a cape cod style home that is built with a combination of grey siding, rustic stone and white trimmings and not to mention lots of windows! It would have a welcoming big porch, with lovely lit lanterns and a flowered landscaped path.

If we had a garage it would have these beautiful carriage white doors, and maybe a french door for a side entrance like below….

Or this side entrance to a mudroom…

and a back entrance along the lines of this…

or like this? just imagine all the natural light that would seep into the living area inside β™₯

Care to step inside?

Love this staircase…

Always need a powder room on the main floor

And now to an open concept Kitchen & Family living space

**get ready because this picture below makes me scream** I love everything about this room…

The layout, colours, textures, BAH – just everything!

you can view more of this amazing house if you click here http://www.houzz.com/projects/67863/Lake-View-Residence

I love the idea of an eating nook/dining area. Surrounded by beautiful windows, slip-covered chairs and a chunky rustic table!

love the windows in this kitchens below

And I would really LOVE to have a pantry, to store all the kitchen accessories and extra food!

And not to forget a big beautiful hood range above the stone!

And I would definitely make the most of the space by making sure all the cupboards and drawers were completely useful and organized. Lots of pull outs and dividers. Love the picture below of how drawers under a sink are way more useful…

Please check this kitchen out below… too many things I love, but I really LOVE those legs on that island – what a fantastic idea!!

A good spacious mudroom/laundry is vital for a busy household I think. A room where all the action and mess happens. And all you need to do is close the door and you can breathe again πŸ™‚ I think this room is key and its helps when it is pretty – maybe I would spend more time in there!

Shall we move to the bedrooms? Let’s start with the Master & ensuite…

Love this vanity..

we can’t forget an amazing shower with lots of jets and a drop ceiling shower head. Adam is dying for one of those!

Oh and we can’t forget the walk-in Closet!!!!

Let’s step down into the basement…

And of course we can’t forget having a good bar…

and a wine station is a must~~!!!

Hope you enjoyed the tour of my dreamy house πŸ™‚

Basement Makeover

18 Jan

I think everyone knows what it’s like to be “20 something” and just starting out. You are moving out on your own (not a dorm but a REAL apartment or REAL house) and you are starting out in your career. Which means (especially now a days) you are running on very little cash – this is because you are paying all your bills AND you are trying to fix up your new digs πŸ™‚ I got a request from someone just like myself that is “starting out” in their new home. They just moved in and are trying to re-do an older home all at once. This makes things especially hard because you are having to fix up an entire house all at the same time. So they have asked for a couple suggestions for their basement…… I think they have a great starting point (no walls to rip down, they can manage with the floor and it’s a reasonable size).

I think this basement needs two things – to be Lighter & Brighter!!

Here are my thoughts for paint….

Here is the bright white wainscoting & gray walls….

Let’s start with the basics. They have laminate flooring which they want to remove and replace with carpet. However, from the pictures it doesn’t look all that bad so I would save some money and not replace the floor and just put down a really nice & natural area rug.

Something along the lines of this from pottery barn…

And here is the staircase, I suggest to paint all the trim & railing white – kind of like below…..

And the door to the laundry room REALLY needs some TLC. I have two ideas for this – One being let’s paint it πŸ™‚ and the second being let’s replace it with either a really fun fabric as a curtain OR a new door!

Home Depot has a nice Bi-fold Saddle Door for $57

And here is a little inspiration for the room…

Here’s a few things that will brighten up the space….

  1. Β Strip Throw http://www.westelm.com
  2. Porcelain Hurricane Lights http://www.westelm.com
  3. Free Trade Pouf http://www.urbanoutfitters.com
  4. Bookcase http://www.ikea.com
  5. Glass Jar Pendants http://www.westelm.com

They have some things to start with such as Couch, Tv stand & coffee table – but to fill the rest of the room IKEA is a great place to get furniture & Accessories that are nice AND cheap!!!

Side Table $10

Comfy Chair that multiple pieces turn into a couch! $250

Hope this helps πŸ™‚ Excited to see the finished product!!!

Future Basement Ideas

7 Dec

Adam has been working on our basement for a little while now. So far the framing & electrical is done and we are almost at the drywall stage. For the colour scheme I am thinking Grey, White & Navy. This is clearly going to be Adam’s “Man Cave” since he has worked so hard… But I would like it to transition from the rest of the house still πŸ™‚ We are going to incorporate a variety of Adam’s hockey memorabilia such as his framed draft Jersey (which just of course had the be the Blackhawks with that Bright Red & Black, so not the colour scheme I was thinking about LOL – but that’s okay we will make it work)

There will be the typical Man Cave necessities to make this space as “MANLY” as possible…

  1. Big Screen TV
  2. Hockey Pictures/ Jerseys
  3. Dart Board
  4. Anything that has to do with beer or a some kind of Keg fridge lol

Here is the Basement Inspiration Board I came up with:

We have two older couches downstairs which I will be slip-covering in a beige or off white, so we don’t have to fork out the cash for new ones. Something like below:

I love how in the left hand corner you can see the old sports pictures. I would like to do something like that with two hockey sticks above… We will also be mounting out tv like the one below

LIGHTING: we will be doing pot lights in the drop ceiling however, I love these wall sconces from Restoration Hardware… they give that awesome rustic feel.

Or this light from Home Depot (WAY cheaper) But since we are doing drop ceiling it would have to be on the ceiling above the stairs I think?

Here are some more inspiration pictures for the basement …
